Het korte antwoord

The Intermediate Math test is a 10-minute check of accuracy and speed with fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages and time calculations in workplace situations. It uses multiple-choice questions and numeric answers. Consider it for bookkeeping, accounting and finance support, bank and lending staff, sales management, operations, technical writing, and product roles that work with measurements and rates.

Wat het meet

Accuracy and speed with fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages and time calculations in workplace situations.

Fractions

Work through fraction calculations in plain workplace situations.

Decimals

Use decimal values to solve workplace math questions.

Ratios and percentages

Apply ratios and percentages to workplace quantities and rates.

Time calculations

Calculate durations and times using hours and minutes.

Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

Numeric answers

The candidate: Works out a figure and types the number.

You see: Accurate working with numbers, without options to guess from.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Roles that handle figures day to day: bookkeeping, accounting and finance support, bank and lending staff, sales management, operations, technical writing and product roles that work with measurements and rates.

What this short math check can show

  1. See applied math directly

A resume describes experience, but does not show how someone handles fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages and time calculations in workplace situations.

  2. Keep the first check focused

The 10-minute test gives you a concise signal on accuracy and speed before you decide what to explore in a work sample or interview.

  3. Use familiar tools

Scratch paper is allowed for every candidate. The questions use numbers chosen so scratch paper is enough.

  4. Match the test to the work

Consider it for roles handling figures day to day, such as bookkeeping, finance support, operations, and product work with measurements and rates.

How the test handles answer integrity

Each candidate gets a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server; reloading brings back the same question with only the time left. On numeric questions, candidates type a worked figure, so there are no options to guess between. Candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. An Integrity Score and evidence timeline are provided for employer review; the system does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, employers can add webcam photos at random moments. See How we build our tests for more on the test approach.

Use the score as evidence, not a verdict

Pair the result with a relevant work sample and a structured interview. Review the score as one signal of accuracy and speed with workplace math, not as a decision on its own. A short sample using quantities, rates or time calculations shows the candidate's method as well as the answer. For a bookkeeping role, you can also review the Bookkeeper role page. If you need a broader numerical reasoning measure, compare it with Numerical Reasoning.

Vragen voor gestructureerde sollicitatiegesprekken

  1. Tell me about a recent task where you had to work with fractions or decimal quantities.

Listen for a clear account of the task, how they handled the figures, and how they checked the result.

  2. Describe a time you used a ratio or percentage to make sense of workplace figures.

Listen for how they applied the numbers to the situation and explained what the result meant.

  3. Walk me through a task where calculating a duration or time mattered.

Listen for their method, how they kept track of hours and minutes, and how they checked the calculation.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions use metric quantities, hours and minutes, and everyday workplace settings, with no money symbols, idioms, sports, holidays or local knowledge. Times use the 24-hour clock and never cross time zones. Names come from many backgrounds, the wording is kept plain so the test measures math rather than reading, and scratch paper is allowed for every candidate.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
