Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
20 questions in 12 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Roles that use Norwegian with customers or colleagues: customer support, sales, customer success, administration and service roles, and, toward the upper bands, editors, writers and content creators.
A focused signal for hiring
See more than a resume claim
The test gives you evidence of Norwegian grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure, alongside reading and listening skills, rather than relying only on a candidate's stated proficiency.
Match language evidence to the role
Use the CEFR-aligned estimate to guide review for customer-facing and colleague-facing roles, from customer support and sales to administration and service.
Keep the initial check brief
The 12-minute assessment checks five areas in one sitting, so you can use interview time to explore how a candidate handles Norwegian in role-specific situations.
Understand the limits of the signal
The test measures reading and listening, not speaking or writing. Pair its result with a relevant work sample to see skills the questions do not cover.
What you get for each candidate
A CEFR-aligned estimate of B2: follows detailed Norwegian texts and speech at work, including some inference, with a good range of grammar and words.
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test integrity signals for review
The test takes 12 minutes, and candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. Each candidate receives a different question set, questions appear in a different order, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, while answer keys remain on HireValid’s servers. If the page reloads, the same question returns with only the remaining time. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and blocked copy attempts are recorded. HireValid also records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers and answers given faster than a question can be read. These appear in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for you to review. The score never decides on its own. With the candidate’s consent, you can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the result as evidence, not a verdict
Review the CEFR-aligned estimate alongside a Norwegian work sample and a structured interview. The test covers grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, reading and listening, but not speaking or writing. A short role-related task can help you review skills the test does not measure. For hiring in Customer Support Agent, Sales Development Rep or Office Administrator roles, choose a sample that reflects the Norwegian used in that job. Treat the score as one signal for a person to review, not as a decision by itself.
Vragen voor gestructureerde sollicitatiegesprekken
Tell me about a time you helped a customer who communicated in Norwegian. How did you make sure you understood their request?
Listen for a clear account of the situation, how the candidate checked their understanding and how they responded to the customer.
How would you explain a change to a service process to a Norwegian-speaking colleague?
Listen for an organized explanation and a practical approach to making the information clear to a colleague.
Describe a time you had to read a short message or instruction in Norwegian and act on it. What did you do?
Listen for relevant details from the message and a clear connection between what the candidate read and their next steps.

Fairness and accommodations
Questions use everyday work situations in standard Bokmål, avoiding dialect, slang, idioms and local knowledge, and never treating forms the Bokmål norm allows side by side as errors. Names come from many backgrounds, and each recording is spoken clearly at a moderate pace and played once for every candidate. The level is a CEFR-aligned estimate from a short test, not a formal qualification, and speaking and writing are not tested.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it, and the level cut scores are set against the norming panel's results.
