Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
20 questions in 13 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
People who plan or look after a team or site budget: managers and assistant managers, production and warehouse managers, office and operations managers, project coordinators and bookkeepers.
A focused view of practical budget work
See applied judgment
A resume can list budget duties, but this assessment asks candidates to read figures, estimate costs and make decisions using a stated policy.
Keep follow-up focused
Use the results to choose which parts of budgeting to explore in a work sample or interview, rather than spending time on topics the role does not need.
Make the task clear
Each question includes the facts needed to answer it. Candidates may use a calculator and scratch paper, and no question depends on country-specific tax, payroll or accounting rules.

- No pasted answers

Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
How the assessment is delivered
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large question pools. Question order and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server; if a candidate reloads the page, the same question returns with only the time left. Candidates cannot go back to an earlier question. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers and answers faster than a question can be read. An Integrity Score and evidence timeline are provided for employer review; the system does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence, not a verdict
Review the score alongside a work sample based on the budget tasks in the role, such as comparing planned and actual figures or applying a stated spending rule. Then use a structured interview to explore the candidate’s approach. The score should inform a person’s review, not decide the hiring outcome by itself. This can help keep the conversation relevant for roles such as a Bookkeeper or Office Administrator. See how we build our tests and browse the test library for other options.

Fairness and accommodations
Amounts are plain numbers with no currency symbol or currency name, and no question depends on a country's tax, payroll or accounting rules: every policy and figure a question needs is stated in it. Settings cover many kinds of workplaces, names come from many backgrounds, and the reading level is kept plain so the test measures budgeting rather than language. A calculator and scratch paper are available to every candidate.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
Test details

Candidates read budget reports, work out what a plan will cost, compare actual spending with the plan, and decide what a stated spending policy allows.
