How the platform is put together, and how an administrator sets up and runs warehouses and accounts for a team.

SQL and querying

Looks at how candidates use Snowflake SQL to query data, including semi-structured data.

Data loading and pipelines

Covers moving data into tables through stages, pipes, streams, and tasks.

Performance and cost tuning

Checks how candidates would make Snowflake queries faster and less costly.

Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Roles that build, run or query data in Snowflake: data and analytics engineers, report and dashboard developers, analysts and scientists who write SQL against the warehouse, warehouse administrators and platform architects.

See applied Snowflake knowledge

  1. Look beyond listed experience

A resume can name Snowflake projects, but it cannot show how someone reasons through a short SQL snippet or chooses what to change. This Snowflake test provides evidence of applied knowledge across querying, administration, data loading, and tuning.

  2. Focus follow-up time

The 10-minute test has 15 questions. Its results can help you focus interviews and work samples on the areas most relevant to the role, such as pipelines for an engineer or query tuning for someone who works with warehouse data.

  3. Cover more than SQL syntax

Questions address Snowflake’s design and administration, data loading through stages, pipes, streams, and tasks, and ways to improve query speed and cost. That gives you a broader signal than a conversation focused only on SQL.

  4. Keep selection evidence reviewable

Use the result as one input for a person to review alongside a job-related work sample and structured interview. It can help you decide what to explore next without treating a score as the hiring decision.

Test integrity signals for review

Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large pools. Question order changes by attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser shows one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. The 10-minute test runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the time left. Candidates cannot copy or select question text, and blocked copy attempts are recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers submitted faster than a question can be read. The employer can review these signals in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline; neither makes a decision on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence, not a verdict

Review the result alongside the person’s application and experience. Then use a short, job-related work sample to see how the candidate approaches a realistic task, such as interpreting a brief query or reviewing a data-loading scenario relevant to the role. Follow with the same structured interview questions for each candidate. Compare the test evidence with the sample and the candidate’s explanation. A score should guide your review and follow-up, not act as a pass mark or decide who gets hired.

Vragen voor gestructureerde sollicitatiegesprekken

  1. Tell me how you would investigate a query that became slower after a change to its SQL.

Listen for a clear investigation path and reasoning about the query, rather than a list of tuning terms.

  2. Walk me through how you would move a new source of data into Snowflake tables for this project.

Listen for a connected explanation of the relevant stages, pipes, streams, or tasks, and how the candidate would decide what applies.

  3. Describe a Snowflake administration decision you would make when setting up a warehouse for a team.

Listen for practical reasoning about the design or administration choice and how it relates to the team’s use.

  4. How would you check whether a proposed change could make a query faster and less costly?

Listen for a way to assess the query and explain the trade-offs, not just a claim that the change will help.

A fit for intermediate Snowflake work

This assessment suits roles that build, run, or query data in Snowflake. Consider it for data and analytics engineers, report and dashboard developers, analysts and scientists who write SQL against the warehouse, warehouse administrators, and platform architects. Match the test to the actual work: a role centered on queries may call for closer review of SQL and tuning, while a pipeline role may need follow-up on data loading. For a related view of pipeline knowledge, pair it with the Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) test.

What the questions look like

Candidates answer multiple-choice questions based on a short situation, table, or statement. They select the right answer, or every right answer. Many questions show a short SQL snippet and ask what it returns, what it does, or what to change. This Snowflake test is designed to show whether a candidate can apply the material, not only recognize it. Questions use neutral business data such as orders, sensors, and inventory. Snippets use consistent formatting, and behavior that depends on the Snowflake edition is stated in the question.

Keep the hiring process focused

The test takes 10 minutes and has 15 questions. Candidates can try a separate practice set with 4 questions in 4 minutes. No desktop computer is required, and candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. Explain how the assessment fits into your hiring process and give candidates a chance to ask about it. If you need a wider view of work skills, browse the test library or read the pre-employment testing guide. For a related technical assessment, see the Terraform test.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions use neutral business data such as orders, sensors and inventory, with no money symbols, local knowledge or idioms, and plain US English at a level suited to technical roles. Snippets are short and formatted the same way throughout. Behavior that depends on the Snowflake edition is stated in the question, so nothing hinges on which account a candidate has used.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.

Veelgestelde vragen

What does the Snowflake hiring test measure?+

It measures working knowledge of Snowflake’s design and administration, SQL and querying, data loading, and performance and cost tuning. Questions may ask candidates to interpret a short SQL snippet or reason about stages, pipes, streams, and tasks. It is intended for intermediate roles that build, run, or query data in Snowflake.

How long is the Snowflake test, and how many questions does it have?+

The assessment has 15 questions and takes 10 minutes. It includes multiple-choice questions based on a short situation, table, or statement. Some ask candidates to identify what a SQL snippet returns or does, or what they would change. Candidates cannot return to an earlier question after moving on.

Which roles can use the Snowflake assessment?+

It is intended for data and analytics engineers, report and dashboard developers, analysts and scientists who write SQL against the warehouse, warehouse administrators, and platform architects. Choose it when Snowflake work is part of the job, and use the results as one signal alongside a job-related sample and interview.

Does the Snowflake test cover pipelines as well as querying?+

Yes. Along with SQL and querying, it covers data loading through stages, pipes, streams, and tasks. It also checks knowledge of Snowflake’s design and administration, plus performance and cost tuning. Consider which of these areas matters most for the role when reviewing the candidate’s result and planning follow-up.

Can candidates practice before taking the Snowflake hiring test?+

A separate practice set has 4 questions and takes 4 minutes. It can introduce candidates to the question experience. The hiring assessment itself is 10 minutes with 15 questions, and is intended to give employers evidence about applying Snowflake knowledge in the role, not to prepare someone for an outside exam.

How should I interpret a candidate’s Snowflake test score?+

Treat it as evidence to review, not a hiring decision. Compare it with a work sample tied to the role and a structured interview. For example, explore how the candidate reasons about a query that needs tuning or a data-loading scenario. The score can help direct those follow-up conversations.

Are the Snowflake questions the same for every candidate?+

Each candidate gets a different set of questions drawn from large pools. Question order changes between attempts and answer options are shuffled. The test presents one question at a time, and its server-side timer restores the same question with only the remaining time if the page is reloaded.
