Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

SEO copywriters, web content writers, content marketing editors, digital marketers and marketing managers who plan or write pages meant to be found in search.

A focused view of search writing

  1. Look beyond the resume

A resume can describe search-writing experience. This test shows how a candidate approaches keyword tables, page audits, and draft sentences.

  2. No tool or search engine knowledge needed

Questions use invented businesses and websites with no brand, tool or search engine names, so a writer who learned on a different platform starts on equal terms.

  3. Copy judged against the query

Candidates improve draft sentences so the page answers what the searcher asked, which shows writing judgment as well as keyword choice.

Test design and integrity signals

Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large question pools. Question order changes between attempts, and answer options are shuffled. Candidates see one question at a time and answer each once, in order, with no going back; answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. The server keeps the timer, so reloading restores the same question with only the time left. Candidates cannot copy or select question text, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Each invitation link is personal and expires, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. It summarizes these in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for the employer to review. The score does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, employers can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as one hiring signal

Review the score alongside a work sample and a structured interview, not by itself. For a work sample, ask the candidate to improve a page draft for a stated search query, then discuss the choices they made. The Technical SEO test may help you consider adjacent skills, while Google Ads and Affiliate Marketing cover other marketing areas.

Vragen voor gestructureerde sollicitatiegesprekken

  1. How would you choose between two keywords for a page when each suggests a different searcher need?

Listen for how the candidate connects the query and likely intent to the page’s purpose.

  2. What changes would you make to this page title, description, and opening copy, and why?

Listen for specific, clear edits that align the page elements and copy with the query.

  3. How would you compare these two potential links from other websites?

Listen for a reasoned comparison of the opportunities and how each could support the page.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions use invented businesses and websites from many fields, with no brand, tool or search engine names, so no candidate gains from knowing a particular product. Any figures needed are shown in the question and compare at a glance, with no money symbols. Names come from many backgrounds, and the questions avoid idioms, sports, holidays and regional knowledge. The reading level suits professional writers, and every answer follows widely accepted practice rather than contested opinion.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
