Het korte antwoord
The Content Strategy test is a timed set of workplace scenarios for intermediate marketing hires. It measures judgment in planning content that leads the right readers to act, getting it found and shared, and using results to improve it. Use it for content strategists, content marketing leads, editorial and content directors, and marketing managers who own a content program.
Wat het meet
Judgment in planning content that leads the right readers to act, getting it found and shared, and using results to improve it.
Planning reader next steps
Candidates decide how a piece of content should lead the right readers toward an action.
Search visibility and channel planning
Candidates consider how content can be found through search and shared through other channels.
Reading results and improving content
Candidates read a small table of content results and decide what to improve next.
Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Content strategists, content marketing leads, editorial and content directors, search-focused content managers, and marketing managers who own a blog, resource library or newsletter program.
What this test adds to your review
See action-focused planning
Scenarios show how candidates connect a piece of content with a next step for the readers it is meant to reach.
Review discovery judgment
Candidates consider both search visibility and other channels, giving you evidence about how they plan to get content found and shared.
Look beyond reported results
A small table asks candidates to interpret content results and choose an improvement, rather than relying only on claims about past work.
Keep the scenarios accessible
Invented companies and products, plain reading, round table numbers, and explained terms keep the focus on content judgment, not local knowledge or a particular tool.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
How the test handles outside assistance
Each candidate gets a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser shows one question at a time; answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server, and reloading returns the same question with only the time left. Candidates cannot copy or select question text, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded. An invitation link is personal and expires, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. The Integrity Score and evidence timeline are for employer review, not an automatic decision. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence, not a verdict
Review the score alongside a work sample and a structured interview; do not use it alone to make a hiring decision. For a work sample, ask the candidate to walk through a piece of content for a blog, resource library, or newsletter and explain its intended reader action and discovery plan. Compare their reasoning with the test evidence. For more context, you can pair it with SEO Copywriting or Google Analytics 4.

Fairness and accommodations
Scenarios use invented companies and products from many industries, with no money symbols, idioms, sports, holidays or local knowledge, and names from many backgrounds. Questions test judgment about content work rather than the menus of any one tool: no platform is named, and any term beyond everyday marketing words is explained in the question. Numbers in tables are round so scratch paper is enough, and the reading level is kept plain.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.

Veelgestelde vragen
How does the Content Strategy test keep its scenarios fair?+
Scenarios use invented companies and products from many industries. They avoid money symbols, idioms, sports, holidays, and local knowledge, and use names from many backgrounds. Questions focus on content-work judgment rather than any one platform’s menus. Terms beyond everyday marketing words are explained, and round numbers in tables make scratch paper enough.
Can candidates use scratch paper on the Content Strategy test?+
Yes. Scratch paper is allowed. The test has 15 multiple-choice questions in 10 minutes, and the questions arrive one at a time. Candidates cannot go back to an earlier question, so scratch paper can help them work through the round numbers in a results table as they answer.
What practice set comes with the Content Strategy test?+
The practice set has 4 questions and takes 4 minutes. It gives candidates a chance to see the question experience before the test. The hiring test itself uses workplace scenarios about reader next steps, search and channel visibility, and interpreting content results.
Which roles fit the intermediate Content Strategy test?+
It is intended for content strategists, content marketing leads, editorial and content directors, search-focused content managers, and marketing managers who own a blog, resource library, or newsletter program. Choose it when the role calls for intermediate judgment across planning, discovery, and content improvement.
