The short answer

Data Analytics in Azure is an intermediate hiring test for data analysts, BI analysts and developers, data engineers, analytics engineers, data scientists, and cloud architects working with analytics services on Azure. Candidates interpret brief scenarios, pipeline settings, SQL queries, and Spark code, then choose how to load and store data, transform it, report on it, and tune speed and spend.

What it measures

Practical decisions in Azure analytics work: loading and storing data, transforming it, reporting on it, and tuning speed and spend.

Ingestion and storage

Covers decisions about loading and storing data for analytics work on Azure.

Transformation and processing

Covers choices for reshaping data and processing it for analytics.

Analysis and visualization

Covers decisions about analyzing data and reporting on it.

Performance and cost

Covers tuning analytics work to manage speed and spend.

Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Data analysts, BI analysts and developers, data engineers, analytics engineers, data scientists and cloud architects who work with analytics services on Azure at an intermediate level.

What this test can show

  1. Judgment in context

Brief scenarios, pipeline settings, SQL queries, and Spark code let you see how candidates choose an approach, not just describe their experience.

  2. Tradeoffs in analytics work

Responses show how candidates think about keeping Azure analytics work fast and affordable while preparing data and reporting on it.

  3. A focus on reasoning

Neutral business settings and plain English keep questions focused on how services behave, not recall of prices, quotas, or menu paths.

Test integrity signals

Each candidate gets a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. The 10-minute timer runs on the server; reloading returns the same question with only the remaining time. Candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and blocked copy attempts are recorded. HireValid also records signals such as time away from the test tab and summarizes them in an Integrity Score with an evidence timeline for the employer to review. It does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, employers can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence

Treat the result as one signal for a person to review, not a decision by itself. Pair it with a work sample based on an Azure analytics scenario and a structured interview about the candidate’s choices. Structured interview questions

  1. A team needs to load delivery logs for later analysis. How would you choose an ingestion and storage approach on Azure?

Listen for how the candidate connects the data and its later use to their choices.

  2. A pipeline produces data that is not ready for reporting. How would you decide what to transform and process?

Listen for a reasoned account of reshaping the data for the intended analysis.

  3. An analytics workflow is slow and costly. How would you investigate what to change?

Listen for a practical approach to tuning speed and spend, and how they would assess the effect.

  4. How would you choose a way to report findings from a set of clinic visit records?

Listen for how the candidate links the reporting choice to the analysis they need to communicate.

Fairness and accommodations

Scenarios use neutral business settings such as retail orders, sensor readings, clinic visits and delivery logs, with names from many backgrounds and no money symbols, idioms or local knowledge. Questions test reasoning about how the services behave, never recall of prices, quotas or menu paths, and the English is kept plain so the test measures the skill rather than reading speed.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.

Frequently asked questions

How does Data Analytics in Azure keep its scenarios fair?+

Scenarios use neutral settings such as retail orders, sensor readings, clinic visits, and delivery logs. Names come from many backgrounds, and questions avoid money symbols, idioms, and local knowledge. Plain English and questions about service behavior keep the focus on reasoning rather than reading speed or recall of prices, quotas, or menu paths.

What aids can candidates use in the Data Analytics in Azure test?+

No aids are allowed. Candidates answer 15 multiple-choice questions in 10 minutes and cannot return to an earlier question. Each question gives them what they need on screen, such as a pipeline setting, a SQL query or a piece of Spark code, and the test can be taken on a phone or a computer.

Can candidates try the Data Analytics in Azure practice set?+

Yes. The practice set has 4 questions and takes 3 minutes. It gives candidates a chance to see the question format before the timed hiring test.

Which roles fit the Data Analytics in Azure test?+

It is intended for intermediate-level data analysts, BI analysts and developers, data engineers, analytics engineers, data scientists, and cloud architects who work with analytics services on Azure. Use the result as evidence for review alongside other hiring information.
