The short answer
The Laravel assessment test is a timed, multiple-choice screen of practical knowledge for building, securing and maintaining Laravel applications. It covers routing, controllers, Blade, command-line tooling, migrations, Eloquent, application security and deeper framework features. Use it to assess Laravel developers, PHP developers and full-stack developers at the intermediate level or more experienced.
What it measures
Practical knowledge of building, securing and maintaining applications with the Laravel framework.
Framework foundations and tooling
Questions cover routing, controllers, Blade and Laravel command-line tooling.
Database work and Eloquent
Questions assess migrations, Eloquent models and relationships.
Application security
Questions address protecting an application against common attacks.
Advanced framework features
Questions cover the service container, middleware, queues, events and testing helpers.
Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
20 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Laravel developers, PHP developers and full-stack developers who build or maintain Laravel applications, from mid-level to experienced.
A focused view of Laravel knowledge
Look beyond the resume
See candidates respond to Laravel questions, including short PHP snippets, rather than relying only on a description of past work.
Check several parts of the framework
The 20 questions cover foundations, database work with Eloquent, security and advanced features in one 10-minute assessment.
Focus follow-up time
Results by area show whether to spend a code review on Eloquent relationships, on application security, or on the service container, queues and events.

Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test integrity signals for review
Each candidate receives a different set of questions, with question order and answer options shuffled. The browser shows one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the time left, and candidates cannot go back. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded. HireValid summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers and answers given faster than a question can be read in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline. You review those signals; the system does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, random webcam photos can be added. See the candidate-friendly hiring guide.

Use the score as one piece of evidence
Review the score alongside a Laravel code review or work sample and a structured interview, never as a decision on its own. Reliability is provisional until 200 candidates have completed the test; until then, read scores alongside a code review or technical interview. For more on test design, see How we build our tests.
Laravel interview questions
How would you trace a request through routing, a controller and a Blade view in an application you have worked on?
Listen for a clear account of the flow and the candidate’s specific role in building or maintaining it.
Tell me about a database change involving a migration or an Eloquent relationship. How did you check that it behaved as intended?
Listen for concrete reasoning about the change, the model or relationship involved, and how the candidate checked the result.
Describe a security concern you found or addressed in a Laravel application. What steps did you take?
Listen for a relevant application risk, the actions taken and how the candidate evaluated the result.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use neutral business examples (orders, bookings, tickets, inventory) with names from many backgrounds and no idioms, money symbols or local knowledge. The English is plain and short so the test measures framework knowledge rather than reading speed. Questions stick to features of current Laravel releases, and where behavior changed between versions the question names the version, so no candidate is marked wrong for knowing an older or newer way.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it. Until then, scores are best read alongside a code review or a technical interview.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the Laravel assessment test, and is there a practice set?+
The Laravel assessment test has 20 multiple-choice questions and a 10-minute time limit. Candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. A separate practice set has four questions and takes four minutes, so candidates can get familiar with the format.
Who is the Laravel assessment test designed for?+
It is intended for Laravel developers, PHP developers and full-stack developers who build or maintain Laravel applications, from mid-level to experienced. Its questions cover framework use, including Eloquent, security and advanced features. Pair it with a discussion of the candidate’s actual experience and the work required in your role.
How does the Laravel assessment test handle different Laravel versions?+
Questions stick to features of current Laravel releases. When behavior changed between versions, the question names the version, so candidates are not marked wrong for knowing an older or newer way. Examples use neutral business contexts such as orders, bookings, tickets and inventory, with plain, short English.
Are aids allowed during the Laravel assessment test?+
No aids are allowed. Many questions show a short PHP snippet and ask what it does, what is wrong with it, or which change fixes it, so candidates reason from the code on screen.
