The short answer
The Brand Management test is a 10-minute, 15-question check of practical brand judgment. Candidates work through compact market situations, briefs and tracking tables to show how they handle positioning, messaging, brand research and related brands. It is designed for intermediate brand managers, assistant brand managers and other marketing roles responsible for how a brand is seen.
What it measures
Practical brand judgment: positioning, messaging, reading brand research and handling a group of related brands.
Positioning and audience choices
Candidates choose how to position a brand for an audience in a compact market situation.
Messaging and campaigns
Candidates make choices about a brand's message and campaigns in response to a brief.
Research and brand tracking
Candidates read research and tracking tables to interpret what they say about a brand.
Managing a family of brands
Candidates consider how to manage related brands without letting them get in each other's way.
Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Brand managers and assistant brand managers, marketing managers, brand analysts and researchers, content and communications leads, and other marketing roles that look after how a brand is seen.
A focused view of brand judgment
Look beyond the resume
The questions show how candidates approach positioning, audience choices and messages, not just what roles they have held.
Review research decisions
Tracking tables give candidates a chance to interpret brand research, including information they can work through with scratch paper.
Cover related-brand choices
Questions also explore how candidates handle a family of brands, alongside messaging, campaigns and brand tracking.

Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test integrity signals for review
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large pools. Questions appear in a different order on each attempt, with shuffled answer options. The browser shows one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. This 10-minute test has 15 questions and does not allow candidates to go back; reloading restores the same question with only the time left. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers and answers submitted faster than a question can be read. An Integrity Score and evidence timeline are provided for employer review; neither makes a hiring decision. See how we build our tests.

Use the score as evidence
Review the score alongside a work sample and a structured interview, never on its own. Ask candidates to explain a choice about positioning, a campaign message or a tracking table, then compare their reasoning with the evidence from the test. For complementary marketing context, consider the Market Research or Google Ads test.
Explore how candidates make brand decisions
A brief presents two audiences with different needs. How would you decide which audience to prioritize for this brand?
Listen for how the candidate uses the brief to explain an audience choice and connect it to positioning.
A campaign message is not coming through clearly in a draft. How would you work with the team to shape it?
Listen for a practical approach to clarifying the message and guiding campaign choices.
A tracking table shows different patterns across related brands. How would you investigate what the results suggest?
Listen for careful reading of the table, relevant research questions and consideration of how the brands relate.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Every brand, product and company in the questions is invented, so no candidate gains from knowing a particular market or advertiser. Budgets are shown as percentages or plain units rather than any currency, and settings avoid sports, holidays, idioms and local customs. Audiences and the people in the scenarios vary in age, gender and background without stereotypes. The reading level suits working marketers, and scratch paper is allowed for the tracking tables.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Brand Management test handle candidates' different market backgrounds?+
Every brand, product and company in the questions is invented, so knowing a particular market or advertiser does not give a candidate an advantage. Settings avoid local customs and idioms, and audiences vary in age, gender and background without stereotypes.
Can candidates use scratch paper or try the Brand Management practice set?+
Yes. Scratch paper is allowed, including for the tracking tables. Candidates can also try a separate practice set with 4 questions and a 4-minute limit before taking the 10-minute, 15-question test.
Which roles and experience level fit the Brand Management test?+
It is an intermediate test for brand managers and assistant brand managers, as well as marketing managers, brand analysts and researchers, and content and communications leads whose work includes how a brand is seen.
How should I read Brand Management scores while the test is new?+
Reliability figures are provisional and will be reported once 200 candidates have completed the test. Until then, use the four sub-skill scores as prompts for the interview. A lower research score, for example, is a reason to ask the candidate to walk through a tracking table, not a verdict on their brand judgment.
