Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
WordPress developers, theme and plugin developers, web developers who maintain WordPress sites, and agency or in-house roles that build on WordPress.
What the test adds to a resume
Check practical knowledge
A resume lists experience; this test asks candidates to apply WordPress knowledge across site setup, themes, secure code, and plugins.
Review code reasoning
Some questions show a few lines of PHP or SQL and ask what they do or which version is right.
A separate view of secure code
Secure code and data handling is scored as its own sub-skill, so you can see how a candidate treats data safety in WordPress code apart from theme or plugin work.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
How the assessment is delivered
Each candidate gets a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. The test has 15 questions and a 10-minute time limit. Candidates cannot go back; reloading brings back the same question with only the remaining time. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. An Integrity Score and evidence timeline are provided for employer review; the system never decides on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence
Review the score alongside a work sample and a structured interview, never on its own. Ask the candidate to explain a relevant WordPress task, then compare that reasoning with the test evidence. Listen for a clear account of site setup and management decisions, rather than a memorized definition.

Listen for careful reasoning about what the code does and how to keep code and data safe.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Questions are about the WordPress core, PHP and MySQL behavior that any WordPress developer uses, written against current stable releases, never about one host, paid plugin or vendor tool. Code is short and plainly formatted, the English is kept simple so the test measures development skill rather than reading speed, and example sites and users use neutral names from many backgrounds.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
