The short answer

The SketchUp Pro test is a 10-minute hiring assessment with 15 multiple-choice questions based on short modeling scenarios. It measures practical knowledge of precise drawing, solid geometry, complex shapes, and model organization. It is intended for employers hiring architects, interior and fit-out designers, 3D visualizers, furniture and product modelers, or drafting and design assistants.

What it measures

Practical knowledge of modeling, solid geometry, complex shapes and model organization in SketchUp Pro.

Modeling basics

Scenarios assess drawing precisely with inferences and typed values.

Solid modeling

Questions cover building clean solids from groups and components.

Complex geometry

Tasks ask how to shape curved and irregular forms.

Organization and presentation

Scenarios cover organizing a model for scenes, sections, and drawings.

Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Roles that build 3D models in SketchUp Pro: architects, interior and fit-out designers, 3D visualizers, furniture and product modelers, and drafting or design assistants.

Evidence from practical modeling scenarios

  1. Look beyond a resume

See how candidates reason through SketchUp Pro tasks, from drawing with typed values to choosing an approach for a model.

  2. Focus follow-up conversations

Use responses about groups, components, curved forms, and model organization to choose relevant topics for an interview.

  3. Keep the skills check focused

The 10-minute test covers modeling basics, solid geometry, complex shapes, and organization without asking candidates to complete a full model.

Test integrity signals for review

Each SketchUp Pro test attempt draws a different set of questions from large question pools. Question order changes by attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, while answer keys stay on HireValid's servers. Timing runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the time that was left. Candidates cannot copy or select question text, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Each invitation link is personal and expires, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for employer review. It does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, employers can add webcam photos at random moments. The test is 10 minutes, and candidates cannot go back.

Use the score as one piece of evidence

Review the score alongside a work sample and a structured interview; it is evidence for a person to consider, not a hiring decision. Ask candidates to walk through a relevant model and explain choices about clean solids, curved forms, or scenes and sections. Structured interview questions

  1. Tell me how you would draw a room feature to given dimensions in SketchUp Pro. What would you do as you work?

Listen for a clear sequence that uses inferences and typed values to draw precisely.

  2. Describe how you would turn grouped or component geometry into a clean solid for a model.

Listen for attention to how groups and components are built and how the approach fits the model.

  3. Walk me through how you would shape a curved or irregular furniture form.

Listen for a considered approach to the shape and the tools or steps the candidate would choose.

  4. How would you organize a model so that scenes, sections, and drawings are ready to present?

Listen for practical decisions about keeping model elements organized for those outputs.

Fairness and accommodations

Every question describes the model in words with metric units, so nothing depends on reading a small screenshot or on seeing colors. Tools are named as they appear in current versions with their default settings, and keyboard actions are given for both Windows and Mac or described by what they do. Scenarios use everyday buildings, rooms and furniture, with no local building codes or regional knowledge.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.

Test details

Short modeling scenarios on everyday SketchUp Pro work at an intermediate level. Questions cover drawing precisely with inferences and typed values, building clean solids from groups and components, shaping curved and irregular forms, and keeping a model organized for scenes, sections and drawings. Each question describes a model and a task and asks what a tool does or which approach works.

  • Questions are in English.
  • No aids are needed.
  • Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
  • 4 practice questions, 4 minutes, before the timed test.

Frequently asked questions

What does the SketchUp Pro test measure?+

It measures practical knowledge of modeling, solid geometry, complex shapes, and model organization. Questions describe a model and a task, then ask what a tool does or which approach works. Scenarios include precise drawing with inferences and typed values, building clean solids, and organizing scenes, sections, and drawings.

How long is the SketchUp Pro test?+

The SketchUp Pro test takes 10 minutes and has 15 multiple-choice questions in English. Candidates cannot go back to an earlier question. A separate practice set has 4 questions and takes 4 minutes.

Which roles is the SketchUp Pro test for?+

It is designed for roles that build 3D models in SketchUp Pro, including architects, interior and fit-out designers, 3D visualizers, furniture and product modelers, and drafting or design assistants. The level is intermediate.

Do SketchUp Pro test questions depend on screenshots or one operating system?+

No. Every question describes the model in words with metric units, so nothing depends on reading a small screenshot or seeing colors. Tools are named as they appear in current versions with default settings, and keyboard actions are given for both Windows and Mac or described by what they do.
