الإجابة المختصرة

The personality type preferences test uses 40 short work-style statements to describe a candidate’s preferences for energy, information, decisions and structure. Intended for any role, it returns a four-letter preference code and a score for each preference. Use the profile to guide interview and onboarding conversations, not as a measure of ability or a reason to screen someone out.

What it describes

A profile, not a grade: no trait end is better than the other.

Energy: inward or outward

Lower: Recharges through quiet, focused time; tends to think things through before speaking and prefers deeper one-to-one conversations.

Higher: Recharges through people and activity; tends to think out loud, enjoys group discussion and gets going by talking ideas through.

Information: concrete or big-picture

Lower: Focuses on concrete facts, details and what has worked before; prefers clear, practical steps and real examples.

Higher: Focuses on patterns, possibilities and what could come next; prefers the big picture and new ways of doing things.

Decisions: logic-first or people-first

Lower: Leans first on logic, consistency and objective criteria when deciding, and values fair, even-handed rules.

Higher: Leans first on the people involved and on shared values when deciding, and values harmony and the effect on others.

Work structure: flexible or planned

Lower: Prefers to keep options open, adapt as things change and work in bursts; comfortable deciding late with new information.

Higher: Prefers plans, schedules and settled decisions; likes to finish one thing before starting the next and to know what comes next.

Roles this test fits

Any role. Useful for planning interviews, onboarding new hires and starting conversations about working styles within a team.

What the profile can add

  1. Discuss working preferences

A resume does not show whether someone prefers to think things through before speaking or talk ideas through with a group. Use the profile to open that conversation.

  2. Explore approaches to decisions

The result can prompt a discussion about objective criteria, shared values and how a candidate considers the people affected by a decision.

  3. Make the result fair to interpret

Every side of each preference is described as a strength. Plain everyday statements avoid clinical terms and customs tied to one culture.

Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.

Test integrity signals

Each candidate receives a different set of statements drawn from large pools, in a different order for each attempt. The browser shows one statement at a time. The 10-minute timer runs on the server, and reloading returns the same statement with only the time left. Statement text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Each invitation link is personal and expires, and a finished test cannot be taken again. There are no right answers to look up: statements describe working habits, and very even or rushed answering patterns appear as signals. HireValid summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab in an Integrity Score with an evidence timeline for the employer to review. It never decides on its own.

Use the profile as conversation evidence

Review the four-letter code alongside each preference score. A score near the middle means there is no strong lean either way, and a letter there may change on another attempt. Pair the profile with a relevant work sample and a structured interview. Use the profile to plan questions and conversations; do not use the code or the scores to screen anyone out. See our pre-employment testing guide for more on using tests in hiring.

Structured interview prompts

  1. Tell me about a time you had to make a decision that affected other people.

Listen for how the candidate weighed consistent criteria, shared values and the effects on others.

  2. Describe a project where you had to work with new information or a changing plan.

Listen for how they handled practical details, possibilities, schedules and changes.

  3. Tell me about a work discussion where you shared or developed an idea with others.

Listen for the candidate’s own account of how they think through ideas and take part in discussion.

Suitable for entry-level hiring across roles

The test is intended for any role and can support interview planning, onboarding and conversations about working styles. For entry-level hiring, consider it for roles such as Customer Support Agent, Office Administrator or Receptionist. The profile describes how a candidate says they like to work, not their ability or character. The personality type preferences test is a prompt for discussion, never a screening tool.

Read all four preferences together

The code summarizes preferences about energy, information, decisions and work structure. Neither side is better, and a candidate may have no strong lean on a preference. Ask about real work examples rather than treating a letter as a fixed description. You can compare this approach with DISC Work Style or Big Five Personality Profile, then choose the tool that fits the conversation you want to have.

Fairness and accommodations

There are no right answers and no preferred code: each side of each preference is described as a strength, and the result describes how a candidate says they like to work, never their ability or character. It is meant to guide interviews and conversations, not to screen candidates out on its own. Statements are about everyday work in plain words, half written for each side of each preference, with no clinical terms and nothing that depends on one culture's customs.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it. Scores near the middle of a preference mean no strong lean either way, and a letter there may change on a second attempt.

Test details

Forty short statements about how a candidate prefers to work, rated from strongly disagree to strongly agree. The answers describe four preferences: where a person draws energy, what information they notice first, how they weigh a decision, and how much structure they like. The result is a four-letter preference code with a score on each preference; every side of every preference is a strength, and no code is better than another.

  • Questions are in English.
  • No aids are needed.
  • Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
  • 4 practice questions, 2 minutes, before the timed test.

الأسئلة الشائعة

What does the Personality Type Preferences test result mean?+

It gives a four-letter preference code and a score for each of four work preferences: energy, information, decisions and structure. The personality type preferences test provides a profile, not a grade; each side of every preference is described as a strength.

Are there right answers on the Personality Type Preferences test?+

No. Candidates rate everyday work statements from strongly disagree to strongly agree. There is no preferred code, and the result describes how a candidate says they like to work, not their ability or character.

Can I use the Personality Type Preferences test for any role?+

Yes. It is intended for any role. Employers can use the profile to plan interview questions, support onboarding and start conversations about working styles within a team. No code is preferred for any job.

Can candidates go back or use aids on the Personality Type Preferences test?+

Candidates cannot go back to an earlier question, and no aids are listed for the test. They can try the practice set first: it has 4 questions and takes 2 minutes.

Is the Personality Type Preferences test fair across candidates?+

Half the statements are written for each side of each preference, so no side is favored. They use plain words about everyday work, with no clinical terms and nothing that depends on one culture’s customs. The test does not require a desktop.

How should I use a middle score from the Personality Type Preferences test?+

A score near the middle indicates no strong lean on that preference, and the corresponding letter may change on another attempt. Treat it as a reason to ask an open interview question, not as a firm label.
