Roles this test fits
Digital, performance and paid search marketers, PPC specialists, marketing managers and agency account staff who run or oversee Google Ads accounts.
What this test adds to your hiring process
Check application, not just familiarity
A resume can name Google Ads experience. This test asks candidates to read a short situation, table or statement and choose the right answer, or every right answer, showing whether they can apply the material.
Focus on the work you need
The questions cover search campaign building and tuning, Display Network reach, and the core account structure, metrics and settings used in paid advertising.
Use a brief first screen
The 10-minute test can help you decide what to explore in a work sample and interview before setting aside more hiring time.
Offer consistent test conditions
Every candidate is offered a calculator and scratch paper. Scenarios use plain reading, invented businesses, and costs written as plain numbers without currency symbols.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
How the assessment is administered
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large question pools. Question order changes for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, while answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server. This 10-minute test does not allow candidates to go back, and reloading brings back the same question with only the time remaining. Question text cannot be copied or selected; a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Each invitation link is personal and expires, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for the employer to review. It does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments. Read how we build our tests for more about the process.

Use the score as evidence for review
Treat the result as one signal, not a hiring decision. Review it alongside a work sample and a structured interview. For a work sample, ask the candidate to explain how they would approach a search or Display campaign scenario relevant to the role, then compare that discussion with the areas covered by the test. Use the interview to understand their reasoning and experience rather than asking them to repeat terms. For a broader process, see the pre-employment testing guide.

Understand scoring and benchmarks
Roles and level this test suits
This intermediate test is intended for digital, performance and paid search marketers, PPC specialists, marketing managers, and agency account staff who run or oversee Google Ads accounts. Match the test to the responsibilities you expect the person to handle, rather than using the score as a stand-alone verdict.
What the questions look like
Candidates answer 15 multiple-choice questions in 10 minutes. They read a short situation, table or statement and select the right answer, or every right answer. Many questions use a small campaign report or setup and ask what it means or what to change. A four-question practice set takes three minutes. A calculator and scratch paper are allowed.
Fit it into a broader skills screen
Use this Google Ads test when the role calls for applied knowledge of search campaigns, Display campaigns, and paid advertising concepts. If you are also hiring for adjacent roles, browse the test library and choose tests based on the work each position requires. The candidate-friendly hiring guide can help you plan a clear process and explain each step to applicants.
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use invented businesses from many sectors and places, with costs written as plain numbers and no currency symbols, so no local market or currency knowledge helps. Scenarios rely only on what the role needs, avoid slang and idioms, and keep the reading level plain. A calculator and scratch paper are offered to every candidate, and features the platform has retired or renamed recently are left out so long-time and newer users are judged on the same current product.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
