What this test adds to your hiring process
A view beyond the resume
A resume describes experience. These workplace scenarios show how candidates approach decisions about leading a team, serving guests and running a shift.
Relevant to restaurant roles
Use one assessment for restaurant managers, assistant managers, shift supervisors and multi-site or area managers across full-service, casual and quick-service restaurants.
A focused screen
The 10-minute test covers guest recovery, food safety and financial control as well as team leadership, giving you a concise signal to review.
Plain, stated conditions
Any temperature, time or policy limit a question needs is included in the question. Money appears as plain round amounts, with figures chosen so scratch paper is enough.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test integrity signals for review
Each candidate receives a different set of questions, in a different order, with shuffled answer options. The browser shows one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid's servers. Timing runs on the server: reloading returns the same question with only the time left. Candidates cannot copy or select question text, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. The 10-minute test does not allow candidates to go back to earlier questions. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers and answers faster than a question can be read. These appear in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for the employer to review; the system never decides on its own. With the candidate's consent, the employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as one signal
Review the score alongside a work sample and a structured interview, never on its own. For a work sample, present a short restaurant-shift scenario and ask the candidate to explain their decisions about team support, guest recovery, food safety and costs. Compare their reasoning with the needs of the role, then explore relevant experience in the interview. Keep the same core questions and evaluation criteria for each candidate. Fairness and accommodations
Scenarios are set in many kinds of restaurants, with staff and guests of varied names, ages and backgrounds and no stereotypes. Any temperature, time or policy limit a question needs is stated in the question, so no country's food rules or labor law must be known. Money appears as plain round amounts with no currency symbol, figures are chosen so scratch paper is enough, and the reading level stays plain.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
