الإجابة المختصرة
The Wireshark test is an intermediate, 10-minute hiring assessment with 15 multiple-choice questions. It measures hands-on knowledge of setting up captures, filtering traffic, reading statistics, and interpreting protocols, including voice call quality and suspicious traffic. Use it for network administrators and engineers, security analysts, penetration testers, network auditors, and support engineers who troubleshoot connectivity.
ما الذي يقيسه
Hands-on knowledge of capturing, filtering and interpreting network traffic in Wireshark.
Capture setup
Covers choosing where to set up a capture so it records the traffic needed for the task.
Filters and statistics
Covers narrowing traffic with display and capture filters and reading statistics windows.
Protocol analysis
Covers interpreting what common protocols show in a packet trace.
VoIP and threat detection
Covers using trace details to assess voice call quality and identify signs of suspicious traffic.
Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Network administrators and engineers, security analysts, penetration testers, network auditors, support engineers who troubleshoot connectivity, and anyone who reads packet captures as part of the job.
What the Wireshark test can show
Evidence beyond a resume
Short packet-list scenarios show whether a candidate can interpret traffic, not just list Wireshark among their skills.
Practical troubleshooting choices
Questions ask what a trace reveals, what went wrong, or which filter or step comes next.
Relevant coverage for network roles
Capture setup, filters, statistics, protocols, voice call quality, and suspicious traffic map to work described for network administrators, engineers, and support engineers.
A focused follow-up
Use results to target a work sample or interview discussion on a candidate's packet analysis, rather than spending that time establishing basic familiarity.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test controls and review signals
Each attempt draws a different set of questions from large pools. Question order and answer options are shuffled, and the browser receives one question at a time. Answer keys stay on HireValid's servers. The 10-minute timer runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the time left. Candidates cannot return to earlier questions. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Invitation links are personal and expire, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. Employers review the Integrity Score and evidence timeline; the system does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, employers can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence, not a decision
Review the Wireshark test score alongside a work sample and a structured interview. Ask the candidate to reason through a packet capture or troubleshooting scenario, then compare that explanation with the test's signals. Do not use the score alone or treat it as a pass mark. For broader hiring coverage, consider the related Cybersecurity, Penetration Testing, or Splunk tests where they fit the role.
أسئلة المقابلة المنظّمة
A packet list shows a failed connection attempt. How would you work out what happened and what to inspect next?
Listen for a trace-led explanation, sensible use of filters, and a clear next step rather than an unsupported conclusion.
A team reports poor voice call quality. How would you use a capture to investigate the issue?
Listen for how the candidate would use packet details and relevant statistics to connect observations to the reported quality.
You need to capture traffic for a connectivity issue. How would you choose where to capture and narrow the results?
Listen for a reasoned capture location, an appropriate filter choice, and an explanation of what the resulting trace can show.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use documentation and private address ranges, generic host names and workplace network scenarios, with no company names, money or local knowledge. Filter syntax and features are written as they work in current stable releases of Wireshark, and questions avoid menu paths or behavior that differ between operating systems, so nothing depends on the computer a candidate learned on. Each packet list shows everything the answer needs.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
Test details
Practical questions on working with Wireshark at an intermediate level: setting up a capture in the right place, narrowing traffic with display and capture filters, reading the statistics windows, and interpreting what common protocols show in a trace. Many questions show a short packet list like the one on screen and ask what it reveals, what went wrong, or which filter or step comes next, including voice call quality and signs of suspicious traffic.
- Questions are in English.
- No aids are needed.
- Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
- 4 practice questions, 4 minutes, before the timed test.
