简短回答
The PowerShell test is a timed, 15-question multiple-choice assessment of practical PowerShell knowledge. Most questions use short scripts and command lines for candidates to read and reason about, covering cmdlets, object pipelines, scripting, and remoting. It is designed for intermediate systems administrators, Windows and Azure administrators, cloud and infrastructure engineers, and support or DevOps roles.
测量内容
Practical PowerShell knowledge: cmdlets and parameters, the object pipeline, variables and scripting, and remoting.
Cmdlets and parameters
Questions cover finding and running commands with the parameters they need.
Object pipeline
Short command lines cover how objects pass from one command to the next.
Variables and scripting
Script questions cover variables, types, and errors.
Remoting
Questions cover running commands on remote computers.

Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Systems administrators, Windows and Azure administrators, cloud and infrastructure engineers, and support or DevOps roles that automate work with PowerShell scripts.
See practical knowledge in context
Reasoning from scripts
Short scripts and command lines show how candidates interpret PowerShell in context, beyond a resume's list of tools.
Version-aware questions
Questions state the PowerShell version when behavior differs, so Windows PowerShell 5.1 and PowerShell 7 experience is not judged by version trivia.
Understand object flow
Pipeline questions show how candidates reason about objects passed between commands, not just whether they recognize command names.
What you get for each candidate

- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test integrity signals for review
Each attempt draws a different question set, with questions and answer options in a different order. The 10-minute test shows one question at a time and does not allow candidates to return to earlier questions. Timing runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the remaining time. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and blocked copy attempts are recorded. Personal invitation links expire, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. The employer reviews an Integrity Score with an evidence timeline; it does not decide on its own. Random webcam photos are optional and require the candidate's consent.

Use the score as one piece of evidence
Review the score alongside a work sample using PowerShell scripts or commands relevant to the role, then discuss the candidate's reasoning in a structured interview. Treat the result as evidence for a person to review, not a decision by itself. For related hiring needs, see the Bash test and Linux test.
结构化面试问题
Walk me through how you would investigate a command that returns unexpected objects in a pipeline.
Listen for a clear account of tracing what passes between commands and checking the command line.
Describe a script you have written or maintained that involved variables, types, or errors. What did you check when it behaved unexpectedly?
Listen for concrete examples of reasoning through script behavior and errors.
Tell me about a time you ran the same commands on several remote computers. How did you set it up and check the results?
Listen for a concrete account of PowerShell remoting, including how the candidate confirmed each computer did what was expected.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use plain US English and generic server, user and file names drawn from many backgrounds, with no idioms, sports or local knowledge. Each question states which PowerShell version it assumes when the behavior differs between versions, so candidates who work mainly in Windows PowerShell 5.1 or in PowerShell 7 are not caught out by version trivia. Code is kept short, so the test rewards understanding rather than reading speed.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: there are no norms yet, and reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.

常见问题
Which roles suit the PowerShell test?+
It is aimed at intermediate systems administrators, Windows and Azure administrators, cloud and infrastructure engineers, and support or DevOps roles that automate work with PowerShell scripts. Use it when those responsibilities match the role, rather than as a general hiring screen.
How does the PowerShell test account for different versions?+
When behavior differs between PowerShell versions, each question states which version it assumes. Questions use plain US English and generic server, user, and file names, without idioms or local knowledge. Short code keeps the focus on understanding rather than reading speed.
What aids and practice are available for the PowerShell test?+
No aids are allowed. Candidates can try a separate four-question practice set that takes four minutes. The test itself has 15 multiple-choice questions in 10 minutes, and candidates cannot go back to earlier questions.
How should I interpret the PowerShell test score?+
There are no norms yet, and reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed the test. Review the score with a PowerShell work sample and structured interview, and consider how the candidate reasons about scripts, pipelines, and remoting. It is evidence for review, not a hiring decision.
