简短回答
The Microsoft SQL Server test is a 10-minute, 15-question check of intermediate hands-on work. It measures T-SQL querying, schema and object design, indexing and query performance, plus server administration and access. Use it to assess database developers and administrators, engineers and BI developers who write T-SQL, and consultants who support SQL Server systems.
测量内容
Practical knowledge of T-SQL, schema design, query performance and server administration in Microsoft SQL Server.
T-SQL querying
Questions ask candidates to read or write T-SQL and reason about what a short listing returns or does.
Schema and object design
Questions cover designing tables and database objects.
Indexing and query performance
Questions cover using indexes and execution plans to make queries run well.
Server administration and access
Questions cover day-to-day server work, including backups, restores, permissions and configuration.
Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Database developers and database administrators who work with Microsoft SQL Server, back-end and data engineers who write T-SQL, reporting and BI developers, and consultants who support SQL Server systems.
See applied SQL Server knowledge
Look beyond listed experience
Short T-SQL listings and small result tables show how a candidate reasons about querying, not just which tools appear on a resume.
Cover connected work areas
One test checks schema and object design, indexing and query performance, and server administration and access.
Focus follow-up time
Use the results to choose which SQL Server tasks to explore in a work sample and interview, rather than treating a score as a hiring decision.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test setup and integrity signals
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large pools. Question order and answer options are shuffled, and the browser shows one question at a time. The test lasts 10 minutes and candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. Timing runs on the server, so reloading restores the same question with only the time left. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. The employer can review these signals in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline; neither makes a decision on its own. With candidate consent, the employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence
Review the score alongside a work sample and a structured interview. For example, ask the candidate to explain a T-SQL choice or discuss an indexing approach, then compare that reasoning with the test evidence. Do not use the score alone to decide. For related coverage, compare SQL Coding: Querying or PostgreSQL. See the pre-employment testing guide for more on using assessments in hiring.
结构化面试问题
How would you investigate a SQL Server query that is running slowly?
Listen for a practical approach involving the query, indexes and execution plans, with reasoning tied to the example.
Tell me how you would design tables and database objects for a new reporting need.
Listen for a clear explanation of the proposed structure and how it supports the requested data.
Walk me through how you would handle a backup and restore task on a SQL Server system.
Listen for a coherent account of the steps and the permissions or configuration they would consider.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Questions describe behavior in SQL Server 2019 and later with default settings unless a question says otherwise, so nothing depends on an older version or an unusual setup. Sample data uses neutral business tables (orders, stock, shifts, tickets) with no money symbols, dates written as unambiguous ISO literals, and names from many backgrounds. Code listings are short and follow one consistent style, and the test asks for a computer so listings are large enough to read.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
Test details
A short, timed check of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server work at an intermediate level. Questions cover writing and reading T-SQL, designing tables and database objects, making queries run well with indexes and execution plans, and running a server day to day: backups, restores, permissions and configuration. Most questions show a short T-SQL listing or a small table of results and ask what happens, what it returns or which choice is right.
- Questions are in English.
- No aids are needed.
- Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
- 4 practice questions, 4 minutes, before the timed test.
- Taken on a desktop or laptop computer.

常见问题
What does the Microsoft SQL Server test measure?+
It covers practical T-SQL, schema and object design, indexing and query performance, and server administration and access. Many questions show a short T-SQL listing or a small table of results and ask what happens, what it returns, or which choice is right.
Who should take the Microsoft SQL Server test?+
It is intended for database developers and database administrators who work with Microsoft SQL Server, as well as back-end and data engineers who write T-SQL, reporting and BI developers, and consultants who support SQL Server systems.
How long is the Microsoft SQL Server test, and does it need a computer?+
It has 15 multiple-choice questions and a 10-minute limit. Candidates need a computer, so code listings are large enough to read, and they cannot return to earlier questions. A separate practice set has 4 questions and takes 4 minutes.
What SQL Server versions and settings does the Microsoft SQL Server test use?+
Questions describe behavior in SQL Server 2019 and later with default settings unless a question says otherwise. Reliability is provisional and will be reported once 200 candidates have completed the test.
