简短回答
The Italian proficiency test is a 12-minute, 20-question hiring assessment in Italian. It measures workplace grammar, vocabulary, reading short texts and understanding short recordings, then gives a CEFR-aligned estimate from A2 to C1. Use it for intermediate customer support, sales, customer success and account management roles, or advanced editorial and content roles.

Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
20 questions in 12 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Roles that use Italian with customers or colleagues: customer support, sales, customer success and account management at the intermediate end, and editors, writers, translators' reviewers and content creators at the advanced end.
A focused view of workplace Italian
See more than a language claim on a resume
The result gives you evidence across grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening. It can help you decide which parts of a candidate's Italian to explore further for customer-facing or content work.
A range that reaches C1
Questions run from everyday B1 tasks to the denser language of C1, so one test covers both a support hire and an editor or translators’ reviewer who needs implied meaning and shifts of register.
Focus interview time on the role
Use the estimate to guide follow-up questions about tasks in customer support, sales or content work, instead of using the interview to check every language area from scratch.
Know what the result leaves out
The test covers reading and listening, not speaking or writing. A separate work sample can help you review those skills when they matter for the role.
What you get for each candidate
A CEFR-aligned estimate of B2: understands detailed Italian texts and speech on work topics, including some inference, with a good range of grammar and words.
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test settings and review signals
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid's servers. Timing runs on the server; reloading returns the same question with only the time remaining. Candidates cannot copy or select question text, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. The 12-minute test does not allow back navigation. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers and answers faster than a question can be read. An Integrity Score and evidence timeline are for the employer to review; the system does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the estimate as evidence
The result is a CEFR-aligned estimate from A2 to C1, based on a short test. It is not a formal qualification, and it does not assess speaking or writing. Review the score alongside the candidate's experience and the requirements of the job; do not use it alone to make a hiring decision. If spoken or written Italian is important, use a job-relevant work sample to assess those skills directly. A structured interview can then explore how the candidate would handle real tasks with customers or colleagues. Keep the same role-related questions and evaluation approach for each candidate.
结构化面试问题
Tell me how you would respond in Italian to a customer who says their issue is still unresolved.
Listen for a clear, relevant response that acknowledges the issue and explains a next step. Ask the candidate to give the response in Italian if that is part of the role.
How would you explain a product or service detail in Italian to a customer who is unfamiliar with it?
Listen for an explanation shaped for the customer, and follow up on how the candidate would check that the information was understood.
Describe how you would review an Italian text before it is published for customers.
Listen for a practical account of how the candidate would review the text. This is useful for advanced editorial, writing, translation review and content roles.
A colleague shares an Italian message that is unclear. How would you clarify what they need before replying?
Listen for relevant clarification and a clear reply suited to working with a colleague. Ask for an Italian response when the job calls for it.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Match the test to the role's language tasks
The intermediate range is suited to roles that use Italian with customers or colleagues, including customer support, sales, customer success and account management. For example, consider it alongside the role requirements for a Customer Support Agent or Sales Development Rep. The advanced end is intended for editors, writers, translators' reviewers and content creators. Use the estimate as one input, then check the specific speaking or writing tasks the role requires through a work sample.
What the estimate covers
Questions are written in Italian and range from everyday B1 tasks to denser C1 language. The test's CEFR-aligned estimate spans A2, B1, B2 and C1. Questions use workplace situations in standard Italian and avoid regional words, dialect, idioms, local references and money. Grammar points where educated speakers disagree are left out. This is an Italian proficiency assessment, not a formal qualification. Compare its scope with other language tests such as Spanish Proficiency or French Proficiency when choosing a test for a different language need.
Plan for the listening section
Candidates need sound to complete the listening questions. Each recording plays up to twice at a moderate pace, and candidates are told before starting that sound is needed. The test has 20 questions and takes 12 minutes, with no back navigation. There is also a practice set of 4 questions that takes 5 minutes. Share these details before inviting candidates so they can plan for the test.
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use workplace situations in standard Italian, avoiding regional words, dialect, idioms, local references and money, with names from many backgrounds. Grammar points where educated speakers disagree are left out. Each recording plays up to twice at a moderate pace, and candidates are told before starting that they need sound. The level is a CEFR-aligned estimate from a short test, not a formal qualification, and speaking and writing are not tested.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it, and the level cut scores are set against the norming panel's results.
