It is for employers hiring intermediate .NET and C# developers, including backend, full-stack, and application developers with about two to three years of experience.
Ölçtüğü şey
Practical C# and .NET knowledge: collections and LINQ, file handling, object-oriented design, and modern .NET and ASP.NET Core.
Collections and LINQ
Choosing the collection that suits a lookup or a sequence of orders, and reading what a LINQ query over it returns.
Files and streams
Reading and writing data such as log files and invoices through streams, and spotting the change that fixes a file-handling bug.
Object-oriented C#
Deciding what belongs in a class or an interface, and predicting how C# objects behave when other code uses them.
Modern .NET and ASP.NET Core
How applications run on the modern .NET runtime and ASP.NET Core, without behavior that differs between recent versions.
Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
.NET and C# developers with about two to three years of experience building desktop, service or web applications: backend developers, full-stack developers and application developers.

Look beyond resume keywords
A resume can name C#, LINQ, or ASP.NET Core. This test gives you evidence of how a candidate applies knowledge across collections, files, object-oriented design, and the modern .NET platform.
Review applied reasoning
Candidates read short situations, tables, or statements and choose the right answer, or every right answer. Questions can show whether they can apply the material, not only recognize it.
Keep the initial check focused
The assessment takes 10 minutes and has 15 questions. Use it to decide which parts of a candidate’s C# and .NET knowledge deserve closer discussion, rather than spending an interview establishing every baseline detail.
Connect evidence to your role
The results can help you focus a work sample or interview on the skills your opening needs, such as file handling or class and interface design. Review the score as evidence, not as a hiring decision.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test setup and integrity signals
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the time left. Candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. These signals appear in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for the employer to review. The score never decides on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as one piece of evidence
Review the score alongside a job-relevant work sample and a structured interview. It is evidence for a person to consider, not a pass mark or a decision. For example, you could ask the candidate to work through a small task involving a collection, a file, or class design, then discuss the choices they made. Keep the task connected to the role and assess the work directly. Use the interview to understand how the candidate approaches the areas measured, including modern .NET or ASP.NET Core when those skills matter to the opening. See our pre-employment testing guide and candidate-friendly hiring guide for more on using tests in a hiring process.
Structured interview questions to follow up
Tell me how you would choose a collection for a feature that needs to look up orders by an identifier. What would shape your choice?
Listen for a reasoned connection between the described need and the collection chosen. Ask how they would check that the implementation behaves as intended.
Walk me through how you would investigate a file-processing change that produces an unexpected result.
Listen for a clear sequence of checks related to reading or writing the file, handling the relevant data, and narrowing down the cause. Invite the candidate to explain their reasoning.
Describe how you would decide whether a behavior belongs in a class or an interface in a C# application.
Listen for an example tied to a design need and an explanation of the trade-offs. Follow up on how the choice would affect the code that uses the behavior.
Tell me about how you would approach a change in an ASP.NET Core application when you are unsure which part of the .NET platform is involved.
Listen for a practical investigation plan and for the candidate to connect the issue to the application context. Ask what evidence would help them choose a next step.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
A fit for intermediate .NET and C# roles
This test is designed for .NET and C# developers with about two to three years of experience building desktop, service, or web applications. That includes backend developers, full-stack developers, and application developers. It is an intermediate-level screen, so consider whether that level matches the work and experience you expect for the opening. For a broader view of available assessments, browse the test library.
What the questions look like
Most questions show a few lines of C# and ask what they do, what they print, or which change fixes a problem. The multiple-choice format may present a short situation, table, or statement and ask for the right answer, or every right answer. This .NET assessment test focuses on applying everyday development knowledge across Collections and LINQ, Files and streams, Object-oriented C#, and Modern .NET and ASP.NET Core. Candidates have 10 minutes for 15 questions, cannot return to an earlier question, and may try a practice set of 4 questions in 4 minutes.
Pair it with the role’s actual work
Use a work sample that reflects the responsibilities of your opening, then discuss the candidate’s decisions in a structured interview. A separate coding assessment may help when you also need to examine SQL querying; see SQL Coding: Querying. If infrastructure work is part of the position, consider whether Terraform is relevant as a separate skill area. These tests cover different areas, so choose based on the work you need the person to do.
Plain language and neutral scenarios
Questions use short, neutral code and plain workplace scenarios such as orders, invoices, and log files. Identifiers are simple English words, and the reading level is kept plain so the test measures .NET skill rather than English. Questions avoid behavior that differs between recent .NET versions, operating systems, or regional settings. Reliability is provisional and will be reported once 200 candidates have completed the test.
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use short, neutral code and plain workplace scenarios such as orders, invoices and log files, with no idioms, sports or local knowledge. Code identifiers are simple English words, the reading level is kept plain so the test measures .NET skill rather than English, and questions avoid behavior that differs between recent .NET versions, operating systems or regional settings.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
Test details
A short, timed test of everyday .NET development in C#: choosing and using collections, reading and writing files, designing classes and interfaces, and working with the modern .NET runtime and ASP.NET Core. Most questions show a few lines of C# and ask what they do, what they print or which change fixes a problem.
- Questions are in English.
- No aids are needed.
- Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
- 4 practice questions, 4 minutes, before the timed test.

Sık sorulan sorular
What does the .NET assessment measure?+
It measures practical C# and .NET knowledge in four areas: collections and LINQ, file handling, object-oriented design, and modern .NET and ASP.NET Core. Questions may show a few lines of C# and ask what they do, what they print, or which change fixes a problem. Use the result as evidence to review alongside other hiring information.
How long does this .NET skills test take?+
The .NET test has 15 questions and a 10-minute time limit. Candidates see one question at a time and cannot return to an earlier question. There is also a practice set with 4 questions and a 4-minute time limit. The assessment is in English.
Who should use the .NET assessment test?+
It is intended for employers hiring intermediate .NET and C# developers with about two to three years of experience building desktop, service, or web applications. The listed roles include backend developers, full-stack developers, and application developers. Consider whether that level and those responsibilities match your opening before using the test.
Does the test depend on one .NET version?+
No. Questions avoid behavior that differs between recent .NET versions, operating systems or regional settings, so a candidate is not tested on one release’s quirks. They cover the modern .NET runtime and ASP.NET Core alongside collections and LINQ, files and streams, and object-oriented C#, mostly through a few lines of C# to read.
How does the .NET interview test fit with a technical interview?+
Use the score as a signal to help choose what to discuss, then ask open questions about relevant work and review a job-related work sample. For example, explore how the candidate would reason through a collection choice or investigate file-processing behavior. Ask for their process and decisions rather than asking them to recite a definition.
Can candidates go back to an earlier question in the .NET assessment?+
No. Candidates receive one question at a time and cannot go back to an earlier question. Timing runs on the server. If a candidate reloads the page, the same question returns with only the time that was left. Take this into account when deciding whether the test fits your hiring process.
How should I interpret an Integrity Score for the .NET assessment?+
The Integrity Score summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. An evidence timeline is available for the employer to review. Treat those signals as information to consider, not as a decision made on its own. With the candidate’s consent, the employer can add webcam photos at random moments.
