Kısa yanıt
The Data Science test is a 10-minute, 20-question check for hiring data scientists and other intermediate data and analytics roles. It measures statistical reasoning, data wrangling in code, machine learning modeling, and neural network training. Questions use examples such as tables, confusion matrices, training logs, and code to assess working knowledge, not just recall.
Ölçtüğü şey
Statistical reasoning, data wrangling in code, machine learning modeling and neural network training, under time pressure.
Statistical reasoning
Assesses reasoning about data with statistics, including questions that may show a small table or confusion matrix.
Data wrangling in code
Checks reading Python, pandas, and SQL that reshape and summarize tables.
Machine learning modeling
Covers building and judging predictive models through practical questions about data and model results.
Neural network training
Checks understanding of training neural networks, including questions that may show a training log.
Question formats
Multiple choice
The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.
You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
20 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.
Roles this test fits
Data scientists, data and analytics analysts, forecasting and demand planning analysts, quantitative modelers, machine learning engineers and researchers, and other roles that build or interpret models from data.
What this test adds to your hiring process
See applied reasoning
A resume describes experience; this data science test asks candidates to work through data, code, model results, and training logs.
Cover four skill areas
Review statistical reasoning, code-based data wrangling, predictive modeling, and neural network training in one short assessment.
Use a focused first check
The 10-minute format gives you a consistent signal to review before investing time in a work sample or interview.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Question delivery and integrity signals
The data science test takes 10 minutes, and candidates cannot return to an earlier question. Each attempt draws a different set from large question pools; question order and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. The server keeps time, so reloading restores the same question with only the time left. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and blocked copy attempts are recorded in the timeline. Personal invitation links expire, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. The Integrity Score and evidence timeline are for employer review; the system never decides on its own. With candidate consent, employers can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence, not a decision
Review the score alongside a relevant work sample and a structured interview. For example, ask the candidate to explain choices while working through a data task, then compare that reasoning with the test’s evidence across statistics, code, modeling, and neural networks. Do not use the score alone to decide. For related hiring needs, see the ETL test and the Artificial Intelligence test.
Yapılandırılmış mülakat soruları
How would you check whether a small table supports the conclusion someone is drawing from it?
Listen for a clear approach to statistical reasoning, attention to the data shown, and limits on what the result supports.
How would you reshape and summarize a table using code for a particular analysis?
Listen for a practical explanation of the steps in Python, pandas, or SQL and how the candidate would check the result.
How would you judge whether a predictive model is useful for a stated task?
Listen for reasoning about model results and the task, rather than a claim based only on the model name.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use neutral datasets such as sensor readings, deliveries, site visits and survey counts, with metric units, no money symbols, no idioms and no local or cultural knowledge. Names come from many backgrounds, the code avoids behavior that differs between library versions, and the numbers are chosen so scratch paper is enough and no calculator is needed.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
Test details
A short, timed check of the working knowledge a data scientist uses every day: reasoning about data with statistics, reading Python, pandas and SQL that reshape and summarize tables, building and judging predictive models, and training neural networks. Many questions show a small table, a confusion matrix, a training log or a few lines of code to work through, rather than asking for definitions.
- Questions are in English.
- Aids allowed: Scratch paper.
- Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
- 4 practice questions, 4 minutes, before the timed test.

What does the Data Science test measure?+
It measures statistical reasoning, data wrangling in code, machine learning modeling, and neural network training. Candidates work through practical material such as small tables, confusion matrices, training logs, and code, rather than only reciting definitions.
What is the format of the Data Science test?+
The test has 20 multiple-choice questions and takes 10 minutes. Questions may involve reading Python, pandas, or SQL, reasoning about a table or confusion matrix, judging predictive models, or working through a neural network training log.
Who should take the Data Science test?+
It is intended for intermediate data scientists, data and analytics analysts, forecasting and demand planning analysts, quantitative modelers, and machine learning engineers or researchers. Use it when the role builds or interprets models from data.
Can candidates use scratch paper on the Data Science test?+
Yes. Scratch paper is allowed. The numbers are chosen so scratch paper is enough and no calculator is needed. Candidates can also try a four-question practice set that takes four minutes.
