Kısa yanıt

The Equipment Maintenance test checks practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical maintenance on heavy equipment, plus inspections against stated limits. Its short workplace situations ask about likely fault causes, next steps, and findings that need action. It is designed for intermediate heavy equipment technicians, mechanics, field service technicians, and maintenance staff.

Ölçtüğü şey

Practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical maintenance on heavy equipment, and of inspecting machines against stated limits.

Mechanical systems

Covers mechanical drives and wear parts on heavy machinery.

Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Covers hydraulic and air systems used in heavy equipment.

Electrical and electronic systems

Covers machine electrical and electronic systems.

Inspection and condition checks

Covers checking machines against stated limits and identifying findings that need action.

Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Heavy equipment technicians and mechanics, field service technicians, plant and fleet maintenance staff, and maintenance support roles working on construction, mining, agricultural, materials handling and industrial machinery.

What this test can show

  1. Reason through heavy machinery faults

Short workplace situations across drives, hydraulics, air systems and machine electrics ask for the likely cause of a fault or the right next step, which a resume cannot show.

  2. Read stated specifications

Some questions include readings or spec tables. They show how candidates apply the stated limits rather than relying on a machine brand or model.

  3. Use a consistent basis

Questions use generic machines, metric units, and stated specs, limits, and service intervals. Scratch paper is allowed for the few light calculations.

Test integrity and review

Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large pools. Question order and answer options are shuffled, and the browser shows one question at a time. The 10-minute timer runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the remaining time. Candidates cannot go back. Copying or selecting question text is blocked, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab and summarizes them in an Integrity Score with an evidence timeline. Review those signals yourself; they do not decide on their own. With candidate consent, random webcam photos can be added. Learn how we build our tests.

Use the score as one piece of evidence

Review the score alongside a relevant work sample and a structured interview. For example, you might ask candidates to explain their approach to a maintenance scenario and compare it with how they handle a sample inspection against stated limits. Treat the score as evidence for your review, not as a decision on its own. For a related role-specific option, see HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) or Mechanical Reasoning.

Yapılandırılmış mülakat soruları

  1. A heavy machine has a reading outside its stated limit. How would you investigate and decide what needs action?

Listen for a clear sequence of checks, attention to the given limit, and a reasoned next step.

  2. Tell me about a maintenance fault you diagnosed on heavy equipment. What information helped you narrow down the cause?

Listen for how the candidate used observations or readings to distinguish possible causes and explain their reasoning.

  3. How would you approach an inspection when the service interval and machine specifications are provided?

Listen for a careful comparison with the stated information and an explanation of any finding that needs follow-up.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions describe generic machines with no brand or model names, state every spec, limit and service interval the answer relies on, use metric units, and need no knowledge of any one country's regulations. People in the situations have names from many backgrounds, the reading level is kept plain so the test measures maintenance knowledge rather than reading, and scratch paper is allowed for the few light calculations.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.

Test details

A practical check of the know-how behind keeping heavy machinery running: mechanical drives and wear parts, hydraulic and air systems, machine electrics, and inspections against stated limits. Questions are short workplace situations, some with readings or spec tables, asking for the likely cause of a fault, the right next step or the finding that needs action.

  • Questions are in English.
  • Aids allowed: Scratch paper.
  • Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
  • 4 practice questions, 4 minutes, before the timed test.
