The Internal Auditing test is a 10-minute, 15-question workplace scenario assessment for intermediate hiring. It measures practical judgment in setting up and maintaining an independent audit function, assessing risks and controls, and handling evidence, samples, and findings. Use it for internal auditors, audit officers and leaders, or accountants and risk and compliance staff who work closely with internal audit.

Roles this test fits

Internal auditors, internal audit officers, supervisors and managers, heads of internal audit, and accountants or risk and compliance staff who work closely with internal audit.

What the Internal Auditing test can show

  1. Judgment with audit records

Small tables, such as risk registers, access lists, and transaction samples, show how candidates read information and make audit judgments.

  2. Independence in practice

Workplace scenarios show how candidates think about setting up an audit function and keeping it independent.

  3. Decisions through an engagement

See how candidates approach risk and controls during planning, then handle evidence, samples, and findings during audit work.

  4. Shared, plain-language contexts

Scenarios draw from many industries and shared practice across countries, so the test does not depend on one country's laws or standard numbering.

Test integrity signals for employer review

Each candidate receives a different set from large question pools, with question order and answer options shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys never leave HireValid’s servers. The 10-minute timer runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only time left, and candidates cannot go back. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt appears in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. Employers review those signals in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline; HireValid does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, employers can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence to review

Treat the score as one signal, not a hiring decision. Review it alongside a work sample, such as asking the candidate to examine a risk register or transaction sample and explain their reasoning. Then use a structured interview with the same open questions for each candidate. See our pre-employment testing guide and candidate-friendly hiring guide for more hiring guidance. Yapılandırılmış mülakat soruları

  1. Tell me about a time you had to protect an audit function’s independence. What did you consider?

Listen for a clear account of the situation and the candidate’s reasoning about how the function should be set up or kept independent.

  2. How would you plan an engagement when the available information points to different risks and controls?

Listen for how the candidate weighs risk and controls and connects that assessment to the planned work.

  3. Describe how you would handle a sample that raises questions about the evidence or a finding.

Listen for a reasoned approach to evidence, samples, and findings, not just a list of audit terms.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions rest on practice shared across countries and sectors, not on any one country's laws or regulations, and never ask for the numbering of a published standard. Amounts are written without currency symbols, dates use the month as a word, names come from many backgrounds, and scenarios are drawn from many industries, including manufacturing, health care, retail, public bodies and nonprofits. The wording is plain English at a level suited to the role, so the test measures audit judgment rather than reading speed.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
