What the Market Research test can show
Evidence beyond a resume
See how a candidate responds to research scenarios and study details, rather than relying only on descriptions of past work.
A view across the research process
The questions cover planning, survey and interview choices, and interpreting and reporting results, helping you focus follow-up on specific areas.
A brief first step
The 10-minute test offers a focused signal before you invest time in a work sample and structured interview.
Clear question format
Candidates answer 15 multiple-choice questions. Small tables of study details or results ask them to work with the evidence provided.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
Test integrity signals for review
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large pools. Questions and answer options are shuffled, and the browser shows one question at a time. The 10-minute timer runs on the server. Reloading restores the same question with only the remaining time, and candidates cannot return to earlier questions. Question text cannot be copied or selected; blocked copy attempts are recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. An Integrity Score and evidence timeline summarize signals for the employer to review. The score never decides on its own. With the candidate’s consent, random webcam photos can be added. Use the score as one piece of evidence
Review the result alongside a work sample and a structured interview. The score can help you decide what to explore, but it is not a pass mark and should never make the hiring decision alone. For example, ask a candidate to outline a research plan for a business question, then compare their reasoning with their answers about survey and interview choices. See the pre-employment testing guide and candidate-friendly hiring guide for more context.

Fairness and accommodations
Scenarios use generic products, services and organizations, with no brands, sports, holidays or local market knowledge. Budgets and prices appear as plain numbers or as weeks and interview counts, never in a currency. Names and respondent groups come from many backgrounds, ages and genders, without stereotypes. Every question is short and in plain US English so that reading speed matters less than research judgment, and the numbers can be worked with the on-screen calculator or scratch paper, which every candidate may use.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
