Kısa yanıt
The Tableau test is a 10-minute, intermediate hiring assessment of data preparation, calculations, chart building, and interactive dashboards. Questions use small data tables, charts, or described views to ask what Tableau would show, which approach meets a need, or why a result looks wrong. It is for analysts, analytics developers, and other reporting professionals.

Business intelligence and reporting analysts, analytics developers, data analysts and data scientists, data engineers, finance and accounting staff who build reports, and SQL developers who publish dashboards.
What the Tableau test adds to your hiring process
Evidence of practical judgment
See how a candidate responds to small data tables, charts, and described views, rather than relying only on a resume.
A focused skills check
Review data shaping, calculations, chart choices, and dashboard interactivity in one short assessment.
A clearer interview starting point
Use the results to choose which Tableau tasks to explore in a work sample or structured interview.
What you get for each candidate
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
How the assessment is administered
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser shows one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. The test lasts 10 minutes, with no back navigation. Timing runs on the server, so reloading returns the same question with only the time left. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. HireValid summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read in an Integrity Score with an evidence timeline for the employer to review. It never decides on its own.

Use results as evidence, not a verdict
Review the score alongside a Tableau work sample and a structured interview. Ask the candidate to explain choices on data preparation, calculations, or a chart request. Do not use the score alone to decide. For adjacent skills, see Snowflake, Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL), or Microsoft Excel Intermediate. Learn more about how we build our tests.
Questions for a structured interview
A view does not show the result a stakeholder expected. How would you investigate it?
Listen for a clear sequence of checks and how they would use the data and view to find the cause.
A manager asks to see how units sold by region changed over the year. How would you turn that into a Tableau view?
Listen for questions about the request, a reasoned choice of view and how they would check it answers the need.
Tell me how you would prepare data for a dashboard with several views.
Listen for how they would bring data in, shape it, and consider what the dashboard needs to show.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Fairness and accommodations
Questions use everyday business data such as orders, units, hours and regions, with no money symbols, dates written so they cannot be misread, and names from many backgrounds. Questions describe views in words and never ask about a color, so nothing depends on telling colors apart. Behavior is as in current versions of Tableau, and the test asks for a computer so the tables and charts are large enough to read.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
Test details
Questions on everyday Tableau work at an intermediate level: bringing data in and shaping it, writing calculated fields and table calculations, turning a request into the right view, and putting views together into a dashboard people can explore. Most questions show a small data table, a chart or a described view and ask what Tableau would show, which approach meets a need, or why a result looks wrong.
- Questions are in English.
- No aids are needed.
- Each question is answered once, in order, with no going back.
- 4 practice questions, 4 minutes, before the timed test.
