Kısa yanıt

The numeric keypad entry decimals and operators test asks candidates to type two short strings of decimal numbers joined by plus, minus, multiply, and divide signs. It measures keypad speed and character accuracy, with accuracy counting more. Use it for entry-level hiring in roles with frequent number entry, such as data entry or bookkeeping.

Ölçtüğü şey

Speed and accuracy entering decimal numbers and arithmetic operators on a numeric keypad.

Numeric keypad speed and accuracy

Measures how quickly and accurately a candidate types digits, decimal points, and the four arithmetic operators on a numeric keypad.

Question formats

Typing

The candidate: Types a passage or a set of figures as quickly and accurately as they can.

You see: Speed together with accuracy, so fast but careless typing does not score well.

2 questions in 3 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Roles with frequent number entry: data entry, bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, inventory and stock control, payroll support and financial operations.

What this test can show

  1. Entry of decimal arithmetic

The two strings combine decimal numbers with plus, minus, multiply, and divide signs, showing how a candidate handles this specific kind of keypad entry.

  2. Accuracy alongside speed

The score combines typing speed with the share of characters entered correctly, and gives accuracy more weight. Review both as evidence about number-entry work.

  3. A stated speed target

Speed is measured against a target of 25 words per minute, with a word counted as five keystrokes, or about 7,500 keystrokes per hour. That gives a concrete reference point for number-entry work.

How the test handles answer integrity

Each candidate receives a different set drawn from large question pools, in a different question order. The browser shows one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server: reloading returns the same question with only the time left. This entry-level test lasts 3 minutes, has two questions, and does not allow candidates to go back. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Speed and accuracy come from the candidate’s keystrokes; pasted or instantly appearing text is recorded. HireValid summarizes signals in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for employer review. It never decides on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments. See the candidate-friendly hiring guide.

Use the score as one piece of evidence

Review speed and accuracy together, then compare them with a work sample based on decimal-number and operator entry from the role’s actual workflow. Discuss the results in a structured interview, and consider the candidate’s experience and other relevant evidence. Do not use the score alone or as an automatic decision. This can support hiring for a Bookkeeper or Data Entry Clerk. For a related test, see Numeric Keypad Entry: Numbers.

Yapılandırılmış mülakat soruları

  1. Walk me through how you would check a batch of decimal figures before submitting it.

Listen for a clear checking process and how the candidate would notice and address an entry that needs correction.

  2. Tell me about a work task where you entered figures or arithmetic values. How did you handle corrections?

Listen for a specific account of entering figures, checking them, and responding when an error or change came up.

  3. How would you handle an entry that looks unclear or inconsistent with its source?

Listen for a thoughtful approach to checking the source and resolving uncertainty before completing the entry.

Fairness and accommodations

Entries use only the characters found on a standard numeric keypad (digits, the decimal point and the four operator signs) plus single spaces, with no money symbols, units, names or codes, so no knowledge beyond keypad entry is needed. The test needs a computer keyboard, so candidates are told before they start that it cannot be taken on a phone; on a laptop without a separate keypad the same characters can be typed from the main keys.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: with only two short entries per attempt, scores may vary between sittings, and reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
