You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.
20 questions in 12 minutes, served one at a time.

What this Korean test can add to hiring
Evidence beyond a resume
A resume can say a candidate knows Korean, but it does not show how they handle particles, honorifics or a short recording that plays once. Their answers give you a specific starting point for reviewing language skills.
Application, not just recognition
Candidates choose the right answer, or every right answer, to each multiple-choice question. The format is designed to show whether they can apply the material, not only recognize it.
A view across four skills
See separate evidence for grammar and vocabulary, sentence construction, reading and listening. That detail can help you decide which Korean tasks to explore in a work sample or interview.
A short first check
The 12-minute test gives you structured information before you spend more time on later hiring steps. Use the estimate to guide follow-up, not as a substitute for reviewing job-related evidence.
What you get for each candidate
A CEFR-aligned estimate of B1: follows the main points of clear, routine workplace Korean in writing and speech and handles common grammar, particles and polite forms.
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
How the test is structured
Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server. If a candidate reloads the page, the same question returns with only the time left; candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers and answers faster than a question can be read. These signals appear in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for employer review; the system does not decide on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as one piece of evidence
The result is a CEFR-aligned estimate, not a formal qualification or a decision about who to hire. Review it alongside the role’s actual Korean tasks and other job-related evidence. For a work sample, choose a short task that reflects what the person would do, such as interpreting a short workplace text or responding to a realistic customer or partner situation in Korean. The test does not assess speaking or free writing, so use a work sample if either matters for the role. A structured interview can then explore how the candidate approaches those tasks. Ask each candidate the same core questions and use their answers to understand their experience, reasoning and communication choices. For a broader hiring process, see the pre-employment testing guide and our candidate-friendly hiring guide.

Who this Korean proficiency assessment can suit
Use this assessment for hiring into roles that use Korean with customers, partners or colleagues, including sales and marketing roles, as well as customer success, account management, product management and project management. It is an intermediate-level test for roles where people read, write and listen in Korean as part of their work. For examples of related hiring needs, see the Sales Development Rep role page and the Marketing Coordinator role page. Match the test to the language tasks in the job description rather than assuming every role needs the same level or mix of skills.
What the questions and recordings are like
Questions are written in Korean. The multiple-choice format uses a short situation, table or statement, then asks the candidate to select the right answer or every right answer. The four areas cover grammar and vocabulary, building correct and suitable sentences, reading short workplace texts, and understanding short recordings. Each recording plays once at a measured pace, so candidates need sound on their device. Questions use everyday workplace situations in standard Korean. They avoid dialect, slang, idioms that need cultural background, holidays, sports and money amounts. Names come from Korean and other backgrounds, and honorifics are tested only as workplace Korean uses them.
Timing, practice and what the estimate covers
The assessment has 20 questions and takes 12 minutes. Candidates can try a practice set of 4 questions with 4 minutes for the set. The score maps to a CEFR-aligned estimate from A2 or below up to B2. Treat it as information from a short test, not a formal qualification. Speaking and free writing are not tested, so assess those separately if they are central to the role. If another language is relevant to the opening, you can compare the format with Japanese Proficiency or browse the test library.

Is the Korean proficiency test an exam qualification?+
No. It is a test employers use when hiring for roles that need Korean with customers, partners or colleagues. Its CEFR-aligned estimate comes from a short assessment and is not a formal qualification. It measures grammar and vocabulary, sentence construction, reading and listening, but it does not test speaking or free writing. Use it as one hiring signal, not as a substitute for a work sample.
Which roles can use this Korean proficiency test?+
It can support hiring for roles that use Korean with customers, partners or colleagues, including customer success, account management, sales, product management, project management and marketing. The test is intermediate level and suits roles that read, write and listen in Korean as part of everyday work. What types of questions are in the Korean proficiency test?+
Questions are written in Korean and use a multiple-choice format. Each presents a short situation, table or statement, then asks candidates to select the right answer or every right answer. The assessment covers workplace grammar and vocabulary, suitable sentence construction, reading short workplace texts and understanding short recordings. This format checks application of the material rather than recognition alone.
Does the Korean proficiency test measure speaking or writing?+
It does not test speaking or free writing. It covers grammar and vocabulary, sentence construction, reading and listening through its questions and short recordings. If speaking or writing is important for a role, add a separate work sample that reflects the job, such as a relevant Korean communication task, and review it alongside the test result.
How should employers use a Korean proficiency test score?+
Treat the score as evidence for a person to review, not as a hiring decision by itself. Consider the CEFR-aligned estimate alongside a job-related work sample and a structured interview. For instance, discuss how the candidate would handle a Korean customer message or understand a short workplace text. Speaking and free writing need separate assessment if they matter for the role.
