Jawaban singkat

The AutoCAD test is a 10-minute, 15-question hiring assessment of practical skill at an intermediate level. It measures precise input, creating and editing 2D geometry, drawing organization and output, and 3D solid modeling. Use it to review candidates for drafting and CAD technician roles, as well as engineering and design roles that produce or maintain CAD drawings.

Hal yang diukur

Practical AutoCAD skill in precise input, creating and editing 2D geometry, drawing organization and output, and 3D solid modeling.

Core tools and precision input

Questions cover entering points precisely and choosing or applying core tools in short work situations.

Creating and editing 2D geometry

Questions check how candidates create and change 2D geometry, including what a command or sequence of steps will produce.

Drawing organization and output

Questions cover organizing drawings with layers, blocks, references, and layouts, and understanding drawing output.

3D modeling

Questions assess how candidates build and edit 3D solids in AutoCAD.

Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Roles that produce or maintain CAD drawings: drafters and CAD technicians, architects, civil, mechanical and electrical engineers, interior and landscape designers, infrastructure and planning staff, fabricators and industrial designers.

What this AutoCAD assessment can show

  1. Check applied knowledge

Candidates read short situations, tables, or statements and choose the right answer or all right answers. This can show whether they can apply AutoCAD material, rather than only recognize a term on a resume.

  2. See specific drawing skills

The AutoCAD skills test covers precise point input, 2D geometry, layers, blocks, references, layouts, and 3D solids. Its results give you topics to explore against the actual drawing work in the role.

  3. Focus your review

A short, timed assessment gives you structured evidence to consider alongside a drawing work sample and interview. It can help you focus follow-up on the areas this test measures instead of relying on a resume alone.

  4. Use one consistent assessment

Candidates receive multiple-choice questions that use typed command names and describe actions in words. That keeps assessment tasks from depending on a particular ribbon layout, workspace, or screen size.

How the online test is administered

Each candidate gets a different set of questions from large question pools. The question order and answer options are shuffled, and the browser receives one question at a time. Answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing also runs on the server: if a candidate reloads the page, the same question returns with only the time left. The test takes 10 minutes, and candidates cannot go back to earlier questions. Question text cannot be copied or selected; a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Each invitation link is personal and expires, and a finished test cannot be taken again. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. The employer can review these in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline; neither makes a decision. With candidate consent, the employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Use the score as evidence to review

Treat the result as one signal, not a hiring decision. Review it alongside a work sample that reflects the role’s actual drawing tasks, then use a structured interview to ask every candidate comparable, job-related questions. For example, ask a candidate to explain choices in a sample drawing, including how they handled precision, organization, or 3D solids. The test is not a substitute for reviewing the drawing itself. For a broader hiring process, see our pre-employment testing guide.

Structured AutoCAD interview questions

  1. Tell me how you would check a set of entered points before using them to create geometry.

Listen for a clear explanation of the candidate’s precision checks and how they would work through the given coordinates or inputs.

  2. Walk me through how you would edit a 2D drawing after a requested change, using this sample.

Ask the candidate to explain the steps they would take and what result they expect. Listen for reasoning tied to the geometry and the requested change.

  3. How would you organize this drawing so its layers, blocks, references, and layout support the requested output?

Listen for choices connected to the drawing and its output. Ask the candidate to explain how each choice supports the task, rather than just naming features.

  4. Describe how you would build or edit the 3D solid shown in this work sample.

Listen for a step-by-step account of the proposed changes and how the candidate would check the resulting solid against the work requested.

Who this intermediate assessment is for

This assessment is intended for roles that produce or maintain CAD drawings. That includes drafters and CAD technicians, architects, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, interior and landscape designers, infrastructure and planning staff, fabricators, and industrial designers. Use the test as one structured part of hiring, not as a replacement for reviewing role-specific work. For related skill areas, see SolidWorks and Mechanical Reasoning.

Question style and candidate setup

Questions may show a small table of coordinates, settings, or command steps and ask for the result, the right command, or what went wrong. They use multiple choice, with one or every right answer possible. Drawings use plain drawing units or millimeters, and numbers are selected to work out on scratch paper. Scratch paper is an allowed aid. A separate practice set has 4 questions and takes 4 minutes. Questions use typed command names and describe actions in words, so they do not depend on a particular screen size, workspace, or ribbon layout. See our candidate-friendly hiring guide.

Pair the assessment with drawing review

An AutoCAD assessment test is most useful when its evidence is considered alongside the work required in the opening. Give candidates a relevant work sample and ask them to explain their approach in a structured interview. You can also browse the test library for other assessments that may fit the role. Keep the interpretation grounded in the specific tasks and experience the job calls for.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions use commands by their typed names and describe actions in words, so nothing depends on a particular ribbon layout, workspace or screen size. Drawings use plain drawing units or millimeters, numbers are chosen to work out on scratch paper, and behavior is as in current releases with default settings. Scenarios cover many industries rather than one, with no culture-specific knowledge.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
