Kısa yanıt

The Basic Math Calculations test is a 10-minute check of speed and accuracy with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers up to three digits. It uses bare calculations, small tables, and short work situations. It is designed for entry-level roles that handle counts and quantities, including warehouse, retail, customer service, data entry, and office work.

Ölçtüğü şey

Speed and accuracy when adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers of up to three digits.

Addition

Candidates add whole numbers of up to three digits, sometimes using quantities shown in a small table or work situation.

Subtraction

Candidates subtract whole numbers of up to three digits in calculations and everyday quantity scenarios.

Multiplication

Candidates multiply whole numbers of up to three digits, including values presented in a short work situation.

Division

Candidates divide whole numbers of up to three digits and enter each answer as a whole number.

Question formats

Multiple choice

The candidate: Reads a short situation, table or statement and picks the right answer, or every right answer.

You see: Whether the candidate knows the material well enough to apply it, not just recognize it.

Numeric answers

The candidate: Works out a figure and types the number.

You see: Accurate working with numbers, without options to guess from.

15 questions in 10 minutes, served one at a time.

Roles this test fits

Roles that handle counts and quantities every day: warehouse and production staff, retail and hospitality teams, customer service and contact center agents, data entry clerks and entry-level office staff.

What this test shows you

  1. The four operations and nothing else

There are no clock times, rounding or fractions, so the result speaks to whole-number arithmetic alone, the core of counting stock or entering quantities.

  2. A score for each operation

Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are scored separately, so you can see whether a slip comes from division rather than adding up.

  3. Bare sums and work situations

Some questions are plain calculations; others put the numbers in a small table or a one-line situation, such as a stock count or a delivery.

Test integrity signals for review

Each candidate gets a different set of questions from large question pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The browser receives one question at a time, and answer keys stay on HireValid’s servers. Timing runs on the server; reloading brings back the same question with only the time left. Candidates cannot go back, copy or select question text, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. On numeric questions, candidates type a worked figure, with no options to guess between. HireValid summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab and unusually fast answers in an Integrity Score and evidence timeline for the employer to review. It does not decide on its own.

Use the score as one signal

Treat the score as evidence for a person to review, not a pass mark or a hiring decision. Pair it with a work sample that uses relevant counts or quantities, then ask the same structured interview questions of candidates. The Data Entry Clerk and Customer Support Agent role pages can help you choose a relevant work sample. For a separate look at reasoning with numbers, see Numerical Reasoning.

Yapılandırılmış mülakat soruları

  1. Tell me about a time you had to keep track of quantities at work. How did you check your count?

Listen for a clear description of the task, the arithmetic involved, and how the candidate checked the result.

  2. Imagine a delivery arrives in several batches. How would you keep a reliable total as each batch is received?

Listen for a practical approach to recording and combining whole-number quantities.

  3. Describe a work situation where you had to calculate how many items were needed across several shifts. How did you work it out?

Listen for a relevant example and a clear explanation of the multiplication or addition used.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions use everyday quantities such as boxes, parcels, visitors and shifts, with no money, prices, idioms or local knowledge, and metric units only. Names come from many backgrounds, sentences are short and plain so the test measures arithmetic rather than reading, and every candidate may use scratch paper. Large numbers are written with a comma for thousands, and every answer is a whole number.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
