Jawaban singkat
The Enneagram profile test is a 10-minute questionnaire for any role, with 40 personality statements about work. Candidates rate how well each statement describes them. The profile shows which of nine Enneagram motivation patterns come through most strongly, offering a starting point for interview conversations, not a hiring decision.
What it describes
A profile, not a grade: no trait end is better than the other.
Type 1: High standards
Lower: Relaxed about how things get done; comfortable handing in work that is good enough for its purpose.
Higher: Holds high standards, notices errors quickly and feels driven to do things the right way.
Type 2: Helping others
Lower: Focuses mainly on own tasks; offers help when asked rather than looking for ways to support others.
Higher: Tunes in to what others need, offers help before being asked and values being useful to people.
Type 3: Goals and success
Lower: Cares little about recognition or targets; measures work by other things than visible results.
Higher: Sets goals, works efficiently toward them and cares about being seen as capable and successful.
Type 4: Individuality and meaning
Lower: Content to work the way others do; does not need work to express something personal.
Higher: Wants work that feels meaningful and personal, values authenticity and wants to be understood as distinct.
Type 5: Knowledge and independence
Lower: Prefers to act first and learn along the way; shares time and energy freely.
Higher: Wants to understand things in depth before acting, guards time and energy and values independent thought.
Type 6: Security and loyalty
Lower: Starts new things with little concern for risks; relies mostly on own judgment.
Higher: Anticipates what could go wrong, values reliable people and plans, and is loyal to the team.
Type 7: Variety and possibility
Lower: Enjoys routine and steady focus; comfortable finishing one thing before starting the next.
Higher: Energized by new ideas, options and experiences; keeps things upbeat and dislikes routine and limits.
Type 8: Strength and directness
Lower: Prefers others to take the lead; avoids pushing hard or confronting people.
Higher: Takes charge, speaks plainly, acts decisively and resists being controlled by others.
Type 9: Harmony and steadiness
Lower: Raises disagreements openly and holds firm to own priorities even when it unsettles the group.
Higher: Keeps the peace, sees every side and stays steady, sometimes putting own priorities second.

Roles this test fits
Any role. Best used to get to know candidates, prepare interview conversations and talk about team dynamics, never as the reason to hire or reject someone.
What this profile can add to hiring
See more than a resume
A resume describes experience and work history. This profile adds the candidate's own ratings of what drives them at work, such as high standards, helping others, or a preference for independence.
Give interviews a starting point
Use the leading type and the other patterns as conversation prompts. You can ask candidates for examples instead of trying to infer their motivations from a resume.
Discuss working differences
The nine patterns offer shared language for discussing goals, variety, security, directness, and steadiness. No pattern is presented as better than another.
Keep the result in context
The profile is not a measure of ability or character. Pair it with a job-relevant work sample and a structured interview, and let a person review all the evidence.
What you get for each candidate
A profile, not a grade: no end of a trait is better.
- Stayed on the test tab throughout
- No pasted answers
- Answered at a steady pace
Scores, profiles and integrity signals are evidence for you to review alongside an interview, never an automatic decision.
How the test handles integrity signals
Each candidate receives a different set of questions drawn from large question pools, and the order changes with each attempt. The browser displays one question at a time. Timing runs on the server, so reloading returns the same question with only the time left. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and a blocked copy attempt is recorded in the timeline. Each invitation link is personal and expires, and a finished test cannot be taken again. There are no right answers to look up: the statements describe working habits, and very even or rushed answering patterns appear as signals. HireValid summarizes signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read in an Integrity Score with an evidence timeline. An employer reviews that evidence; the score never decides on its own. With the candidate's consent, the employer can add webcam photos at random moments.

Treat the profile as a conversation prompt
This is a profile, not a grade, and no type is better than another. The leading type is a starting point for discussion, not a reason to hire or reject someone. Combine it with a job-relevant work sample and a structured interview that asks each candidate the same core questions. For an overview of using hiring tests alongside other evidence, see the pre-employment testing guide.
Questions to explore the profile
Tell me about a time you spotted an error in work that was otherwise ready to share. What did you do?
Listen for the candidate's own account of their standards, how they judged what needed attention, and how they balanced care with the purpose of the task.
Describe a time you helped a teammate while managing your own responsibilities. How did you decide what to do?
Listen for how the candidate noticed the need, offered support, and handled their own priorities.
Tell me about a goal you worked toward when the route was not clear. How did you choose your next steps?
Listen for how the candidate approaches goals, uncertainty, and changing options, rather than treating one pattern as preferable.
Describe a disagreement on a team and how you handled it.
Listen for the candidate's approach to speaking plainly, considering other views, and deciding what mattered in that situation.
Understand scoring and benchmarks
Suitable for entry-level hiring across roles
The profile is entry level and fits any role. Decide on a hire from the job's own requirements, then use the profile to support a conversation about work patterns, for example when hiring a Customer Support Agent or an Office Administrator. The profile should not be the reason for a hiring decision.
How to read the nine patterns
The statements cover everyday work in plain language. Each pattern is described with both strengths and costs, and some statements are worded in the opposite direction. The profile reflects the candidate's own ratings; it does not judge ability or character. Research support for the Enneagram model itself is limited, and consistency will be reported once 200 candidates have completed the test. Treat the leading type as a prompt for discussion. For more on HireValid's approach, read how we build our tests.
Consider another work-style perspective
The Enneagram profile focuses on the nine patterns of motivation described in this test. If you want another perspective on work style, compare it with DISC Work Style, or explore Emotional Intelligence. Use any profile as one piece of evidence to discuss with the candidate.
Fairness and accommodations
No type is better than another: the profile describes what candidates say drives them, never a judgment of ability or character, and it is meant for conversation rather than hiring decisions. Statements cover everyday work in plain words, each pattern written with both its strengths and its costs, some worded in the opposite direction, with no clinical terms, private topics or customs of one culture.
You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.
Provisional: how consistent the profile is will be reported once 200 candidates have completed it. Research support for the Enneagram model itself is limited, so treat the leading type as a starting point for discussion.

Pertanyaan yang sering diajukan
What does the Enneagram Profile test measure?+
It measures which of nine Enneagram patterns of motivation come through most strongly at work, based on the candidate's own ratings. These include high standards, helping others, goals and success, individuality, knowledge, security, variety, directness, and harmony. The leading type is a starting point for discussion, not a verdict about ability or character.
What does a candidate do in the Enneagram Profile test?+
Candidates rate how well 40 short statements describe them. The statements concern what drives them at work and cover the nine patterns, such as helping others or preferring independent thought. The result shows how strongly each pattern comes through, with the strongest named as the leading type.
How long does the Enneagram Profile test take?+
The test takes 10 minutes and contains 40 statements. Candidates can try a separate practice set of 4 statements, which takes 2 minutes. They cannot go back to a previous statement, no aids are needed, and the test does not require a desktop computer.
Is the Enneagram Profile test appropriate for any role?+
It is intended for any role and is entry level. The best use is to get to know candidates, prepare interview conversations, and talk about team dynamics. For a Customer Support Agent, for example, you might discuss how a candidate balances helping others with their own tasks.
Does the Enneagram Profile test have right answers?+
No. There are no right answers to look up, and no type is better than another. Each pattern is written with both its strengths and its costs, and some statements are worded in the opposite direction. Very even or rushed answering patterns appear as integrity signals for the employer to review.
Can I screen candidates by their Enneagram type?+
No. The profile is for getting to know candidates and preparing conversations, never the reason to hire or reject someone. It reflects the candidate's own ratings, and research support for the Enneagram model itself is limited, so a leading type says nothing about whether someone can do the job. Judge job fit from a work sample, role-relevant tests and a structured interview.
