Roles this test fits

Shopify developers, theme developers, e-commerce developers, store builders and technical store managers who set up, extend and maintain Shopify stores.

What this Shopify test can show

  1. Evidence beyond a resume

See how a candidate reasons through short Liquid theme code and store setups, not just how they describe past Shopify work.

  2. A focused view of store work

Review evidence across theme development, store administration, advanced customization, and apps and integrations in one short test.

  3. Less time spent screening basics

Use the results to focus your review and interview on candidates’ practical Shopify skills, rather than relying on resume claims alone.

  4. Relevant to technical store roles

Use it when hiring Shopify developers, theme developers, e-commerce developers, store builders, or technical store managers.

Test conditions and review signals

Each candidate receives a different set of questions from large pools. Questions appear in a different order for each attempt, and answer options are shuffled. The 10-minute test shows one question at a time, and candidates cannot go back. Timing runs on the server; reloading restores the same question with only the remaining time. Question text cannot be copied or selected, and blocked copy attempts are recorded in the timeline. HireValid records signals such as time away from the test tab, pastes into answers, and answers faster than a question can be read. An Integrity Score and evidence timeline are provided for employer review; neither decides on its own. With candidate consent, an employer can add webcam photos at random moments. Use the score as one piece of evidence

Review the Shopify assessment score alongside a work sample and a structured interview. Ask candidates to explain their decisions on a store task that fits the role, such as reading Liquid theme code or reasoning about metafields and app connections. The score is evidence for a person to review, not a hiring decision on its own. For related technical hiring needs, see the .NET test, SQL Coding: Querying, and ETL test.

Yapılandırılmış mülakat soruları

  1. A product page needs to display different content for different products. How would you approach the theme changes?

Listen for a clear explanation of how they would inspect the theme code and reason through the needed changes.

Listen for a practical approach to the customization and how the candidate would work through the store setup.

  3. An app needs to connect to a Shopify store. How would you investigate the connection?

Listen for reasoning about the app’s connection through APIs and the steps they would take to understand the setup.

  4. You are asked to update a store setting during routine administration. How would you check the change?

Listen for a careful description of their store administration process and how they would confirm the setting is right.

Fairness and accommodations

Questions use plain US English and generic stores selling everyday goods, with names from many backgrounds and no local knowledge, idioms or holidays. Money appears only where store work needs it, with round amounts. Code is kept short and readable on a small screen, and questions rely on lasting platform concepts rather than recent release details.

You can give any candidate extra time as an accommodation. Results are evidence for a person to review, never an automatic decision.

Provisional: reliability is reported once 200 candidates have completed it.
